Daily Instrument — Yazh
The yazh is an ancient tamil openstringed polyphonous instrument. The yazh’s popularity was lost once the veena came around. The instrument’s head is carved into an animal called yali. Yazh’s come in 4 types, Periyazh (21 stringed) Makarayazh (19 stringed) Cakotayazh (14 strings) and Cenkottiyazh (7 strings). The yazh has a wooden bowl resonator with skin on the top with a stem as a neck with gut strings.
