I got tagged by @tj-dragonblade in a shipper tag meme and to one of the questions I answered YamaSai (I think you can guess which question that is TJ ^^;)
So yeah I felt like drawing them again. It's such a pleasure to draw Sai.. Yamato is always a bit difficult for some reason, but Sai is just really really lovely.

Sai
Title: waiting on you
Rating: T
Relationship: Sai/Yamato | Tenzou
Tags: Canon Compliant, Blank Period (Naruto), Confessions, First Kiss, when one's pining and the other's oblivious, root really messed with yams selfworth
Summary: Sai tries to convince Yamato to come back to the village with him.
And 🔗: https://archiveofourown.org/works/57533134
written for the @nart-rarepair-hellscape ship of the month challenge! and for free day for @narutorarepairweek!
Came across a Picrew thing earlier for creating three of your favorite ships or some such (here is the link if you'd like to do your own) so here are my current OTP and two of my dearest OTPs from previous fandoms.
Sandman: Dreamling! Curly Dream agenda! I love these guys; they restored my faith in fandom and got me writing again, and there is just so much to explore with them.
Naruto: YamaSai There were no good options for Yamato's hair so he looks like he just got out of the shower and pulled on the fluffy sheep sweater, and now I half want to write it oops. The rarepair ship I built with my own two hands and lots of love sweat and tears. They will always be tremendously dear to me.
Saiyuki: 58. Gojyo and Hakkai and all their profoundly fucked-up baggage. I have such deep love for Minekura's deeply-traumatized boys and the deep-rooted connections they find in each other.
And, since Saiyuki Gaiden could technically be regarded as a separate fandom:
Those youths are from my fanon Menma Next Generations AU! Let me introduce them to y'all and talk a little about their bond. So let's start from left to right:
Violet square: they're Shikari (son of Shikamaru and Kiba) and Tami (daughter of Temari and Tenten). As you can see, Shikari is kinda punk but when it comes to Tami he gets shy and clumsy. Anyway, Tami is deeply in love with him, that's why she's always bothering him. She has Temari's nature after all.
Blue square: here we have Inoue (the pink-haired one, son of Sakura and Ino) and Tenma (Tami's twin). The softer relationship you'll ever hear from me. Inoue is an introvert guy who likes to be at peaceful places, all alone. Of course, there's an exception: he prefers Tenma's company over his solitude.
Mint green square: those are Teru (son of Sai and Yamato yeah that's the reason why he looks so whey-faced) and Sarah Lee (Rock Lee's daughter). They're teammates, because of this they spend a lot of time together. Teru is secretly in love with her (but everyone knows except Sarah), but his feelings aren't requited. Sarah fell for Inoue.
Green square: two masterminds; Genji (the red-haired one, daughter of Gaara and Neji) and Ozen (daughter of Kakashi and Obito). They don't get along pretty well, actually they have and enmity initiated by Ozen. But she hides more than shows.
The book said the correct path was to be straightforward, too bad he forgot to read the part were it was explicitly encouraged to be discreet when asking for sex; YamatoSai I love them, thank you for all the amazing writing.

Having spent the first two decades of his life planning nearlyevery step he took, not planning for something so important felt almost likewearing someone else’s skin. The book had said that spontaneity was best, however, and so Sai had deliberately not allowed himself to think about thisuntil he was already down by the river with his feet in the water. CaptainYamato lounged at his side looking nothing less than entirely relaxed. Thatmuch he was happy for; it wouldn’t do to spring this on the poor anxious man ifhe were already upset by something.
Most of what Sai knew about socializing had been learnedfrom books and so far, of the friends he had made, he hadn’t lost any of them. Those were very good statistics. By those alone Sai suspected that he couldtrust most of what his books told him, although Dickless and Ugly had both toldhim on several occasions that he may have taken certain parts too literally.
This time he was sure that wasn’t the case. In the confusingmatters of romance the books had said the correct path was to bestraightforward and that was something in which he excelled.
“Captain Yamato, I have a question I would like to ask you,”he said.
“You know you don’t have to call me Captain anymore,” hisfriend pointed out with a smile. “Just my name will do.”
“My mistake. Yamato then, I would like to ask if you willhave sex with me.”
“What!?”
Sai blinked, unsettled by the massive eyes and shockedexpression staring back at him. “I asked–”
“No, I heard you! I just, wow. That was, er, blunt.”
“I read in a book that being straightforward about thesethings is best to prevent misunderstandings.”
“Ah.” Yamato scratched at the back of his neck. “That makesmore sense. And it’s good base logic. It’s just that most people try to be alittle more discreet about that sort of thing.”
Well that was unfortunate. He’d been so sure that his bookswould not let him down this time. It wasn’t often that Sai experienced thesensation of awkwardness but he did now as doubt welled up inside him, enoughso that he began unconsciously planning how best to tactfully retreat if itshould become necessary. For all that he’d planned to not plan the actual question he realized suddenly that he reallyshould have made one for what to do in the event that his offer was rejected.
“Should I remove myself?” he asked carefully. To his deeprelief Yamato shook his head.
“That isn’t necessary. Before I answer your question let meask one of my own. Were you hoping for a physical relationship and nothing moreor was that an offer to start a romantic partnership?”
Sai couldn’t help but take a moment for his own version of abesotted stare. He could always trust this man to speak kindly and try to wordthings in a way that would help him understand, to speak as plainly as possiblewithout the confusion of hyperboles or metaphors. It was only one of manythings about him that had captured Sai’s interest so thoroughly in the firstplace.
“My apologies for the misstep. I meant to ask if you wouldbe interested in entering a romantic relationship with me.” Waiting for ananswer was agony even though it took only seconds for Yamato to smile again.
“That would make me very happy,” he said.
Sai didn’t have the proper words to describe the feelinginside him just then but after much research, a little soul searching, and manyconversations with his new partner he would someday discover that in thismoment what he felt was joy, pure and unadulterated, for the first time in hislife.
I love Inosai so much T_T Inosaku is good and all, but I really grew found of InoSai <3
Why not both? :D
In my preferred Endgame scenario, Ino and Sai are happily married in an open relationship with Yamato as their occasional third and Sakura as Ino’s best friend (with unconditional benefits) :’3
