Something that fascinates me about Lichen in particular is that while she isn't as Heinous™ as Shin (that's to say she's not 'stand there while a ship of people descends into cannibalism' or 'manipulates ship crew into turning on the captain' bad), she's, to me, a far more startling hoodwink than Shin was. And I think it's because of this CG.

This CG is a bright, beaming, gentle smile and might actually be the most bright, beaming, gentle smile I've seen in a gacha. This is something straight out of a formative childhood memory like a kid looking up at their big sister. Or maybe it's the smile of someone you missed your chance with and you remember them as the one who got away for the rest of your life. That's how lovely it is.

Shin's version is this smile:

And it's a very pretty smile! But it doesn't really reach her eyes like Lichen's does. Beyond a standard 'gentle maternal' impression, Shin's smile doesn't move me. It makes for a beautiful expression but it doesn't feel like this smile is really tugging at any facial muscles to form, and thus to me it doesn't feel genuine. I don't know if this was a consideration when they were doing the art for Abyssal Tentaculum, but it's actually true to Shin's character. Like eerily so.

Shin's presentation as the 'gentle motherly type' is important to where she stands in the narration because that archetype is one that the rest of the casts traditionally finds security in. But Shin performs an archetype more than she actually lives it and I think this CG where her smile doesn't reach her eyes encapsulates that.

Shin's misdeeds are more dire than Lichen's, but Lichen's bamboozle parses as the greater personal betrayal because she was able to present herself as genuine. Chief was already burned by Shin, was skeptical of Lichen, warmed up to Lichen, and then Lichen leveraged her ongoing, established protectiveness of them to give them a trojan horse of a charm that 'protected them' by forcibly piloting their body and then forced them to open up the coffin...like...

how are you going to flash me this BRIGHT, BEAMING GRIN and then usurp my autonomy. when I'm in a fake af contest and my opponent is Lichen from Path To Nowhere (I don't know what happens in Chengxiao's chapter so maybe this is reconciled, but for now......)

After 10 years on this website it finally happened...... someone corrected my french spelling fjfjf

Heads up : if you do that I'll absolutely block you <3 yes I make mistakes in my own mother tongue haha very funny and you know what’s crazy ? You're definitely the *first* to tell me-

But more seriously, it’s not for nothing the french language got spelling reforms up until the 90s, with linguists pushing rightfully for more to this day. The french language is atrocious to learn even for native speakers, a significant part of the population can’t correctly write it, it’s official spelling is debated, no one can agree on what it actually is, and the "highest authority" on the question are a bunch of old bougie Parisian gatekeepers parading around with swords calling themselves 'immortals' who spent 30 years writing a shit dictionary and are behind the most prominent far right newspaper in the country talking all day about the decline of the "real french language" because the "youth" 's slang sometimes uses words backwards or has arabic english or just regional french in it.

Literally sobbing rn because I just learned that I have finally reached my goal weight of 53 kg which means I’m finally within the normal BMI range and can get on Testosterone.

It is SO difficult for me to gain weight and my previous max has been at 52,8 kg and I was completely stuck. I had almost settled with the fact that I just wouldn’t be able to get there because of my idiot fast metabolism (thanks genes and my mum and dad who were scrawny until their mid 30’s). And now, 12 days before my deadline / meeting with the gender clinic, I am at my goal. I might even be able to exceed it a bit if I really lock in so they feel better about it. I’m just so happy, and starting to working again definitely helped my eating habits even more. I‘m literally so happy.

Sorry for the lack of art again, I hope to get back to it again soon, there’s just a lot happening in my life at the moment. And I wanted to tell you guys this because. I’m just really happy. I won’t have to wait another 4 years to maybe get the chance to go through gender affirming care again.

Hey guys! Shroomie here! So I've been seeing a lot- And I mean A LOT of long posts here on Tumblr. I'm new to Tumblr and am more used to quick content platforms like Tik Tok but if yapping in long posts is allowed here? Then shit, grab a chair becuase I'ma bout to explain EVERYTHING — without spoilers.

Eveything after this line is just me yapping about all that's happened in Polystar so far for anyone who is new or just needs a little more clarity on it. I will also be featuring some FAQs!

WHAT IS THIS BLOG MAINLY ABOUT?

Polystar ask blog is mainly around the main ship, the Polystars themselves, but it is also its own world and Multiverse. All characters you see featured in this blog will have altered designs, stories and personalities. This is most prominent in the main cast. Background or side characters will have less variety (like Swap's Papyrus)

All interpretations and alterations of Polystar characters from the original are done for the sake of interpretation and they are purposefully detatched from their originals by design so they do not get confused. Any headcanons in Polystars, though heavily inspired by canon, should not be taken as canonical to the original creations unless stated otherwise by the creators. Boring stuff out of the way...

Polystars focuses on a few different casts of characters:

Polystars — Dream, Ink, Swap and Palette

Afterdeath Family — Geno, Goth and Reaper

Nightmare's Empire — Nightmare, Paperjam and in the near future, Nightmare's Gang

𝓓𝓻𝓮𝓪𝓶

Dream's story, while similar, is quite different when ti comes to characterisation. Dream's original AU, Dreamtale, is now dead, but Dream still holds on to his culture and the customs of his village in both what he wears and what he teaches Palette. His village was not perfect— far from it, but he tries to maintain the traditions he finds important without the cruelty that caused its downfall in the first place. He's a lot taller than the original Dream, getting a bit of a growth spurt when the balance in the Multiverse was restored, and he tends to be a bit of a worry wart, especially when it comes to his family. He's the voice of reason in most situations and can be rather timid when it comes to affection and expressing himself.

He can speak Spanish! It's his mother toungue. he had to be taugth English by Neil before leaving Dreamtale

He's naturally very nurturing and tends to hog Palette by accident

He has a pet name for everyone in his family; Ink is carinho or mi artista, Swap is amorsito or mi cielo, Palette is mi bebè.

Ink mainly takes canon facts into consideration in his story. The main differences in him are mainly in his design and way of speech. He's an energetic optimist who loves to see the creativity of those around him and manages to find a bright side to almost any situation. You will very rarely ever see him cry. He loves his partners deeply despite not feeling emotions in a conventional sense and trusts them. He is in the aro ace spectrum and allows himself to be playful and at ease with his partners. While out on the job, he takes on a slightly more serious persona but remains overall playful and attentive to the AUs

Fun facts about Ink:

He can speak French and sometimes switches languages when he doesn't notice (especially when excited)

He got the scar on his skull from an accident while collecting red paint—

He has a scrap book of Palette and his development aswell as a family album he keeps. He likes journaling with many textures and colours.

He has a pet name for everyone in his family; Dream is mon soleil, Swap is mon ciel, Palette is mon chouchou.

Ｓｗａｐ

Swap has a lot of my personal headcanons on him so he ended up looking pretty different— He's an an official member of the royal guard (An apprentice under Alphys) along with his brother, Papyrus. He's he most easily scarred due to his reckless behaviour ad the intense attacks they deal with day to day. He's very cheerful but has a bad habit of not really looking out for his own self preservation, only the safety of others arounnd him. He has a special ability called 'Hyperfocus'. It's the equivalent of CHECKING an enemy. You can tell when he is using this ability because his eyesockets will turn yellow. Overall, he's a very optimistic person who makes sure Ink and Dream keep up with their health and are well taken care of. He was the last one to join the Poly but first to fall.

Fun facts about Swap:

He is the Medic of the Star Sanses and knows a lot of first aid adn emergency proceedures from Undyne.

He's very proud of all his battle scars!

He designed his own 'battle body' and maintains it himself

He's physically the strongest but magically the weakest.

ᴘᴀʟᴇᴛᴛᴇ

Palette is the child of Dream and Ink. His lore is mainly original in terms of backstory but his personality and characterisation will take inspiration from the original. He originally was a shared dream between Ink and Dream but one night, their magic and intent fused to create the lil cutie you know today. Dream and Ink don't fully understand why Palette formed the way he did but they love him nonetheless

Fun facts about Palette:

He's turning one soon! How exciting!

He is very jealous of toys and possessions.

He's obssessed with bunnies

He has invisible markings like Ink's that glow when he uses a lot of magic!

He doesn't need vials to feel

Palette isn't a smart cookie but he's just happy to be a cookie

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩

Dream and Ink were together first, Ink being the first to confess. They raised Palette with the help of Swap for the first few months but [SPOILERS! COMIC TO BE DRAWN ABOUT THIS. POST WILL BE EDITED!]. Their relationship is a secret to people outside of their family for their own safety, though they did get married after Swap joined the relationship. They didn't have a big ceremony but they're okay with that. They raise Palette with equal authority and are a triad!

Geno is Dream's closest friend in Polystars due to Goth and Palette being so close in age. He raises Goth alone due to Reaper's restrictions in his own world. He struggles with parenting Goth, juggling his grief and the wellbeing of his demi god kid the best he can. He lives in a small secluded AU Ink found that could support his glitched code without him dying. Geno cannot freely travel between AUs and relies on the Stars to do so. Because of this, he cannot visit Reaper himself.

Fun facts about Geno:

He likes the attention he gets from Reaper but is too bashful to show it

He has no idea Goth is so intelligent

He tends to be very impatient but well meaning

He likes to dress himself up in different styles.

Reaper is mostly absent in Polystars due to the conditions put on him by his world. He can only visit Geno and Goth one day of his chosing per year. The day he chose was Goth's birthday so he wouldn't miss out on as much of Goth's development as he can. He misses Geno gratly and cherishes his family more than anything in the world. The gods of his world are very dear to him and despite their strictness, he still cares for some of them. He originally was trying to reap Geno's soul but [SPOILERS! COMIC TO BE DRAWN ABOUT THIS. POST WILL BE EDITED!].

Fun facts about Reaper:

He has feathers like a crow that need proper care

He can turn into a crow!

He can float and does so to tower over Geno. The height difference between them is not as big as it may seem (though Reaper is still taller)

His wings and feathers are pleasantly cold

Goth was born with the intelligence of a teenager due to being a demi god. However, he still has the emotional maturity of a baby. He struggles with the knowledge he can't exactly understand. He hates Reaper because he associates Reaper's presence with Geno's grief. His opinions of Reaper were further worsened when Reaper missed his birthday. He sees Palette as a dear friend and is entertained by him despite his lower intellect.

Fun facts about Goth:

He loves doves

He still fusses and cries like a normal baby despite his intelligence.

He can't fly or transform at the moment but will be able to in the future

He's an albino crow

Geno and Reaper have a very healthy dynamic with Reaper being very affectionate and Geno being very logical. The unhealthy aspect comes from the distance between them and the strain of parenting on Geno. Geno feels rather neglected, not only having to spend his birthday alone but also with Reaper missing Goth's birthday, he feels worthless. Dream helps grounding him while Reaper's brother keeps him focused on work until he can see his family again. They both miss eachother greatly.

In Polystars, Nightmare's personality and characterisation is mainly personal headcanons. He's cruel and cold, his main goal being to continue toying with the Multiverse and bring his brother to ruin. He doesn't necessarily want to defeat his brother— then their game would end. He wants to continue this push and pull of balance forever He sees Palette as avermin and is repulsed by the idea that Dream used to be his 'brother'. He cares for no one but himself and only uses people for their money and status.

Fun facts about Nightmare:

He can control how much light and darkness he emits

He sees Palette as an unfair advantage to Dream, nothing more.

Pαρҽɾʝαɱ

Paperjam was created after a battle between Ink and Error, unbeknowst to both of them. He found his way to Nightmare's castle and imprinted onto him. He's mostly in a very goopy state but [SPOILERS! COMIC TO BE DRAWN ABOUT THIS. POST WILL BE EDITED!] He is mostly just wandering about but Nightmare seems to have found a purpose for him...
