thinking abt how hol and yarrow's relationship is like...
ofc they go from enemies to friends, to on-and-off lovers. its complicated, theyre both afraid of commitment for different reasons. Hol struggles to make any meaningful attachments, he's a drifting cowboy of course. Yarrow has more personal reasons for it, of course, alongside being autistic and socially avoidant.
at first hol's easygoing nature and breezy approach to fleeting romance scares yarrow. They are sure his feelings are just surface level and he isn't really attached. Yarrow's been through this rodeo before and is sure he intends to leave them behind.
Its not out of malice.. Hol just doesn't know he really truly does want Yarrow by his side, and not as just another fling.
This leads them to split, and Yarrow dating Kira for the duration of Part 4. (Yeah I know this may mess with him masquerading as Kosaku in the later part of DiU....) And after he dies, Hol shows up and they talk. A lot. Its an uncomfortably long talk, about each other and where they are at. They decide to try again, and Hol swears to commit himself to Yarrow. Yarrow is trying their best to put faith in Hol, and to not shy away from this chance they gave him. He understands how he hurt them, and wanted to set it right. He never wanted or thought he deserved another chance.. But Hol is going to better himself for his partner.
