Mycroft is surprised by Greg trying on his Halloween costume in the office.
"Don't you dress up, Mycroft? There's gotta be some office party somewhere."
"Really, Gregory? Do I look the type?"
"Your everyday sometimes looks like a costume, so yeah."
"Hmph. Halloween was always my brother's holiday."
"Sherlock liked the spooky, did he?"
"He could dress as a pirate, reveal who was under every costume, and extort the neighbors for treats. Of course he loved it."
"Sounds like you have some treating to make up for. C'm'here, you. Wanna unwrap me?"
A Cozy Night In
If Mycroft had realized that adding a bed/sitting room to his office would have meant Sherlock sleeping more often, he would have done it much sooner.
The men enjoy a cozy night in, as Mycroft plays a favorite song of their childhood and Greg relaxes with a classic read (Robin Hood) while keeping an eye on the brothers to make sure they both get the rest they need.
While I was attending presentations at "Sherlock Holmes at 50: Celebrating the Golden Anniversary of the Sherlock Holmes Collections", the boys were picnicking. Greg was relaxing enough that Mycroft even put aside his cellphone.
(Thanks to @stlgeekgirl for set direction.)
(The umbrellas are from last night's cocktails.)
(Mycroft wanted something with rum.)
I haven't yet shared several stories I have for Li'l Mystrade, so you don't know yet that Mycroft now has a bedroom in his club, but for the weekend -- here's Greg, tucked into bed after a hard day, being serenaded by Mycroft with a relaxing lullaby.
Li'l Mycroft Brings Li'l Sherlock a Gift
One day, in Mycroft's office...
Greg has been trying to read, but he's distracted, wondering when Mycroft will get back from his latest trip. Maybe a short nap, he thinks.
Greg is woken by Mycroft appearing, pile of luggage in tow. He tries to surreptitiously make sure he didn't drool in his sleep before...
... jumping up to kiss him hello, grabbing him by the lapels and surprising Mycroft into dropping his umbrella. Mycroft doesn't mind.
Greg drags Mycroft to the couch. "C'mon, c'mon, sit with me and tell me all about your trip."
Unfortunately, Sherlock takes that moment to interrupt the two.
"Ah, brother mine, you must have deduced I have a gift for you."
"How timely... there was an ... accident with an experiment this morning," says Sherlock, as he examines the high-quality violin before taking his prize and departing.
Which gives Greg and Mycroft the privacy they need for Greg to welcome Mycroft home enthusiastically.
Much, much later... the Holmes brothers prepare for a duet.
(The violin is a souvenir from the Sherlock Holmes Museum gift shop. And I had forgotten, when getting it for Sherlock, that he doesn't actually have hands.)
Li'l Mystrade Have a Guest
Greg enters Mycroft's office. Mycroft is checking the headlines on his phone, keeping up with goings on even though it's the holidays.
"Hey, love, nothing drastic on?"
"Mmmmmm," Mycroft hums in reply, confirming things are relatively quiet.
Greg pecks Mycroft on the cheek. He can't resist showing his affection.
"Where's your tree? You haven't decorated this year?"
"The candles are out, my dear. But no, I was distracted with the move."
"Move? You're giving up this office?"
Greg hops up on the couch. He's noticed something.
"Hey, where are all the good books? I see your shrine to Watson's affection for your brother..."
"Good books? And must you climb the furniture?"
"You know, the fun ones. Robin Hood. Dracula. Alice in Wonderland. You used to have a whole shelf of them."
"Ah, well..."
"Never mind, love. I actually brought someone by to meet you. Wanted to make sure you were ready for company."
Greg goes to the door and ushers in his guest.
"Mycroft Holmes, Hercule Poirot. Monsieur Poirot, Mycroft Holmes, minor official in the British Government... and my partner."
"Bonjour, Monsieur Poirot."
"Greetings, Mr. Holmes."
"Monsieur Poirot was visiting on an exchange scheme. We got to chatting, and I thought you might like to meet another detective. One with much better manners than your brother."
"Ah, I thought I recognized the name," says Poirot.
"Yes, for my sins. Please, sit down, we were about to have tea."
The three men enjoy snacks and chat together.
Happy Holidays! In a low-key, relaxing manner.
Gregory, what are you doing?!?
'm decorating! Oh, dropped my bat, can you hand it up?
And encourage you to continue risking your neck on a stack of furniture? What made you think my office needed festive decor?
Your pumpkin is cute but it needed some friends.
You and your generous heart. But what is this object in my chair, pray tell? I do not recall crabs being part of traditional Halloween decor.
's a spider!
It is a fluorescent shade of purple. Black, orange, that white ghost is temporarily acceptable... but I draw the line at purple.
Very well, won't hurt my feelings if you dispose of it. I'll rubbish this bat as well.
Thank you. Compromise is the heart of negotiation.
Yeah, yeah, I'll have it all put away by the end of the week.
Much appreciated.
In the meantime, want to tell ghost stories? 's an excuse to sit close.
Acceptable.
This is Yarn Boys Halloween part 3 and final. Part 1 was Greg in costume. Part 2 was Greg out of costume.
