Are you more of a Beau/Jester shipper or a Beau/Yasha shipper?
hhhhmmmmm please do not make me pick between these two beautiful ship dynamics i love them both so much in different ways
So much flirting during this fight with the hook arm things.
First Beau flips her hair and turns to Yasha after killing one, making Yasha sputter. Then the little longing exchange when Jester kills the one holding Fjord (on Jester’s part) and then he kisses her on the cheek...
I love fight scene flirting
It’s interesting. In general, I don’t really care about wlw ships. Like, got no problem with them but my interests are pretty masculine leaning and my brain is generally in the realm of mlm ships.
But among the small details I’m noticing more than others through this rewatch, I’m just noticing so many beauyasha moments. I have no emotional feelings invested in beauyasha (or either character tbh) but as a writer and a person obsessed with character dynamics, I’m loving seeing all these hints of beauyasha I missed the first time. Like, I’d never read or write the ship, but I love seeing the dynamic develop and grow knowing how it ends.

Don't get too attached.
The words from her mentor rang in her head as Beau walked back to the people stables they were being cooped in for the night. She didn't want to get attached, she didn't want to feel for these people. But she knew the truth, she was already getting far too attached.
When she got back to the stables, the monk was surprised to find someone else awake. Not just anyone, either. Sitting against the stable wall, eyes piercing in the darkness, was Yasha. "Couldn't sleep?" Beau asked, wiping sweat from her brow after the training.
"Weird dreams, want to get a drink?" Yasha asked her. Yasha was asking her to get a drink? Alone? Normally this would be the most exciting offer ever, but right now all Beau could think about was Dairon's lessons. Be patient, don't get attached.
Still though, a few minutes later, Beau found herself alone at a bar table with Yasha. A rare event, as Yasha tended to keep to the background. Hyper aware of the fact that it was just them, Beau nervously looked down at her nearly full glass of ale. The silence between them was deafening. Say something.
"So, uh, Yasha..." Beau stammered finally, attempting to be her usual cocky flirtatious self.
"So, Beauregard?" It was strange to hear her full name spoken so softly. Yasha's voice always caught her off guard- it made it hard for her to think.
"Xhorhas, huh? Must be weird to be back here, and stuff," really you idiot, that's all you could think to say?
The monk glanced up again- mistake. Yasha was intensely looking at her now. Her multi colored eyes piercing Beau's gaze. Beau smirked, trying to play it cool.
After a moment of thought, Yasha replied. "It is very strange, yes. Especially after... well, after everything."
Beau was always curious to know about where Yasha came from, but she knew this wasn't a bear she wanted to poke. "It's sort of culture shock after the Empire. Kinda badass and rugged, like you," stop flirting, you idiot. "Is it all like this? Where you're from?"
"The south is more... swampland. I've never really been this far north," the soft voice replied. Beau sipped at her ale, suddenly wishing she had more. "This city is different. Don't you feel strange standing out like we do?"
Beau thought about it for a moment. Honestly, she didn't mind being the underdog. As long as her position with the Cobalt Soul wasn't compromised, she preferred this attention to the kind from her past. "It's different, but kind of cool. I get respect for beating things up instead of being an upstanding citizen." She wiped at her dirtied and bloodied face.
"That fight yesterday was careless," Yasha replied tersely. "Don't get us all killed."
Yasha's voice was stern, but seemed almost desperate and... caring? It was hard to tell. Attempting to joke it off, Beau laughed. "Jeez, you sound like Dairon."
"Maybe they had a point to what they said," Yasha replied, serious as always. "Anyways, it's late. We should sleep." She began to stand up, chugging down the rest of her ale.
With that statement, Beau silently began to panic. Let her sleep, don't get attached, it doesn't matter, the Cobalt Soul side of her itched on her brain. But when would she get another opportunity like this? Another chance to talk to Yasha one on one, no bullshit, no immediate life threatening situation? Just let her go to sleep, we have an early morning tomorrow.
"Wait," the word rang out, a surprise to the monk even as she said it. "I uh, wanted to say something." What was she doing?
"Okay, what is it?" Yasha replied, turning back towards her. She seemed as surprised as Beau felt that she had suddenly spoken up.
"I just wanted to say, uh, look. I know I'm dumb, and flirtatious, and whatever," Word vomit, "I know it's not cool, and it probably makes you uncomfortable. I'm sorry. I know we don't talk in depth much... and I know I may seem like an impulsive, danger seeking, abrasive, fuckwad of a person."
Yasha smiled a bit at that, softly. A smile that couldn't be hidden no matter how much she tried. "You are impulsive, and abrasive, and a bit of a fuckwad," she looked her right in the eyes again. "But you don't have to apologize."
"But, I do though," Beau cut in, the liquid courage making its way to her brain. "That's not who I am. I mean, I am a fuckwad. I'm an asshole. But the flirtation, the impulsiveness, that's all just a front."
Yasha's soft smile and piercing eyes were flooding Beaus brain as her heart pounded in her chest. "We all have fronts, Beau. It's okay."
She had to keep talking, even if the blood was rushing to her ears. "I know... but I care about you, Yasha. And I wanted to say..." she paused. Dairon's words rang in her head. Don't get attached. But it was too late, she already was. "I wanted to say, I only do all that stuff because I think you're one of the strongest people I've ever met. Not just physically, but from all I've learned about you. I just, I'm glad you're here with us. I'm sorry if being back here is hard for you, and I want to... well... be here for you."
Yasha seemed taken off guard by the sudden vulnerability, and across her pale cheeks Beau couldn't help but notice blush forming. "That's very sweet, thank you Beau. I'm just confused about what I'm doing here. I'm not sure what path i'm following."
"Well," Beau replied, attempting to calm her own nerves with every word. "Whatever path it is, we're in it together, and you're one of us. I hope you know that... I hope you know that I really do think you're, well, amazing. Not just 'I think you're hot' amazing, either. Really, genuinely, top notch fucking amazing. We've got your back. I just, I wanted to let you know that."
The woman across from her now couldn't hold back her smile, and responded in a way that almost shocked Beau. There was a tenderness in her voice that Beau had never heard before. "I'm more awesome with all of you around. Thank you, Beau."
"Oh, and Yasha?" Beau added, not knowing how to respond to the sincerity that had just been shown.
"Yes?"
"Sorry for being a dumbass who jumped into danger," this time, it was her that turned around and walked away, as she had suspected, far too attached.
“I just feel so faint. I need some nice strong arms to hold me...”
