You Are The Universe: Using Magic

There are ways to utilize magic in this au, but they’re a little convoluted so stay with me lol

Think of the magic that makes up everything in this AU like a river. Things like potions, enchantments, and the Endermen’s teleportation are like taking a bucket of water out of the river to use elsewhere. Water will stay in the container, and it can be directed easily. The bucket in this scenario is things that act a certain way all the time if that makes sense. A potion will do what it does, because it was brewed that way. An enchantment will function because those were the runes carved. Endermen teleport because that’s simply their nature.

Where this gets interesting though, is the other ways magic can be used. Magic is very much a living, moving being, not necessarily one with motives outside simply existing, but still a being that can be communicated with. This means you can do magic without enchantments or anything, simply by convincing magic to adopt your motives/intent for a little bit. This is less like taking a bucket from a river and more like redirecting a small stream from the greater flow for a little bit. It’s less reliable, and it will eventually return to its original path, BUT you don’t need a bucket :)

(this also means “for the bit” is a legitimate strategy for using magic)

I think communicating with magic is more about intent and will than speaking, though I might make a spoken component to either flowing magic or “bucketed” magic, idk yet.

Now, anybody can use magic, the only real reason most people in this AU can’t do magic is because they aren’t aware of it and don’t know that it’s aware of them. It’s very hard to have a conversation if you don’t know your conversation partner is there, yk? Once you learn to recognize the way everything is connected, and the way you are connected to everything, redirecting the flow gets a lot easier.

Magic is obviously a very big part of my worldbuilding, so this isn’t actually everything about magic because there are other facets I feel fit better in other sections, like sleeping and the nature of the Universe. Hopefully I’ll have those written soon 🤞
