!art improvement!
A year difference… I finally said goodbye to anime art, and for me, personally, think it helped me to improve. Not just as a artist, but as a person.
sometimes I look at my old art and miss it… Not because I think it’s better, but something else. It was such an interesting time in my life when I drew anime. And letting that go was like letting go of a part of my life I never thought I could live without. I’m much better now, and I feel as though you can see it though my art. especially the change in identity and self expression instead of being held back by a style that only allowed me to draw “cute girls.” it’s dumb, but we never really talk about how you draw, can affect you so much. I was so focused on this “cute” thing that in my real life I let it consume me. With anime, as an example… has so many rules, so much you need to follow for it to look right. So I stoped… Now, im finding myself. I’m learning I don’t have to conform into being something I’m not. Not feeling like I have to draw for others simply because the style is popular. Maybe that’s not who I am? I never had any time to ever think about that. Social media is so overpowering when it comes to literally anything. ever since 2020 there are community has completely changed. there’s names to everything now, unnecessary drama, rude criticism on self or other… trend’s goes by a second and your not even a artist anymore, you’re an entertainer in front of an audience. Creativity getting lost, not simply because of the AI (which is 100% bad) but because people are too busy following an ‘aesthetic.’ What happened, To just loving art?
loving the process? loving the silliness and cringe of what can come out of it.. not just a pretty picture you can hang on your wall, but something more. what happened to expressing yourself? it’s all so performative. I’ve lost joy from posting my art. And that simply might just be because no one happens to see my art anymore, but I’m hopeling that maybe one day, we can bring back being cringe.
not because it’s a trend, or it’s cute, but because we aren’t afraid of having fun again.
