Untitled fanfic written to help me cope with grief
Rating: I don't know Summary: In memory of Alyce Flora. I know this isn't the best thing I've ever written and I'm sorry. Disclaimer: I do not own or know the members of The Cure. Any events described here are entirely fictional and I make no profit from writing this. This definitely didn't happen at any point during the present day. TRIGGER WARNING: mention of (imagined) suicide
I awake with a start.
In my confusion I look around the darkened room, the last few traces of my nightmare gradually disappearing as I return to reality, and I see that I'm still in my bedroom and Mary is fast asleep by my side. She sleeps peacefully, her mind at ease for now. I blink a few times and rub my eyes, not entirely remembering what I just saw in my sleep anymore, and I attempt to curl back up underneath the covers before it suddenly comes back to me. Simon. In my nightmare I'd called at his house only to find him lying motionless in the sitting room, his forearms littered with fresh cuts and an empty bottle of pills sitting nearby, and I'd had barely any time to process what I'd seen before I woke up. At the moment I'm too in shock to even cry, even though I know it's not real - and on top of that I don't want to wake up Mary. She'll start asking lots of questions and I won't know how to answer them, and I'll make up things on the spot and she'll tell I'm lying and - I sit back up in bed again, drawing my knees up to my chest and wrapping my arms around myself with a sigh. Suddenly I find myself crawling out of bed, trying very hard not to make a sound, and I walk over to Mary's side of the bed and lean in to kiss her forehead before I make my way downstairs. I walk into the kitchen and turn on the light, later regretting my decision as the sudden brightness makes my eyes ache, then find my phone on the counter and pick it up, dialling Simon's number. I don't even know why I'm doing this either, I suppose I just want to make sure he's okay. The phone rings a few times before I hear a familiar sleep-weary voice croak a quiet, "Hello?" "Simon, are you okay?" I murmur, bringing my other hand up to my mouth. I hear the covers rustle as Simon sits up in bed before he says, "It's past midnight, Rob, what d'you want?" Oh god… he's alive. Thank fuck he's alive. Even though it was only just a nightmare it just felt far too real and to hear his voice is just - "I just want to hear you speak, I s'pose," I reply tentatively. "Robin…" Simon asks me, his voice softer now, "are you okay?" "Come and see me, Simon. I miss you." A light silence hangs for a small moment, before Simon says, "Alright, if that's what you want," and hangs up. I put down the phone and sink to the floor with a sigh of relief, gazing at the tiles.
After what feels like an age I hear a knock on the door, and I stand up and rub my eyes before I make my way toward it and open it. When I see Simon standing on my doorstep, his tired eyes downcast because he can hardly keep them open and a coat flung over his slender frame, I can't help but smile as I realise that maybe everything is going to be okay in the end, and maybe he won't leave me just yet. "C'min," I whisper. Simon looks up at me for a moment, smiling a little, before he steps indoors, closing the front door behind him. I make my way toward the sitting room and he follows me, the light from the kitchen illuminating the scene a little, and I fall onto the first sofa I feel, curling up on the cushions before I feel them dipping beside me as Simon sits down. "I had a nightmare, Si…" I whisper, "… and you were…" I feel a warm hand on my shoulder, gently pulling me upright, and I instinctively bury myself against him as I finally let the tears flow. "Oh, Robin," he's cooing quietly, "it's okay… I'm here. Just like you wanted." I rest my head on his shoulder and bite my lip to hold back the sobs as he wraps his arms around me, holding me close, and I lean closer into him, seeking comfort in his arms. Soon I feel one of Simon's hands moving up to stroke my hair in order to soothe me, and already I can feel the warmth of his body nearly lulling me to sleep, so I pull back and look into his eyes. He moves a hand to gently cup my cheek, gently stroking my face with his thumb, and I look down again for a moment with a sigh. "I'm sorry I woke you up, Si," I murmur. "I just… I just love you too fucking much…" "I know, lovely…" he's whispering as he climbs over toward me and takes me back in his arms, "I know." I bury my face against Simon's shoulder again, my tears still flowing and dampening his shirt a little, and I can feel him pressing gentle kisses in my hair as he holds me tighter. His hand gently sweeps circles on my back, still soothing me, and just as I feel like I'm going to fall asleep again he lets go of me and lies down sideways across the sofa, inviting me to do the same. I comply with a smile, and as I lie myself down he wraps his arms around me and pulls me close against his chest, burying his face against my neck and kissing me there. With a happy sigh I let one of my hands slide over his own, and our fingers twine together.
