We're almost done with the first year, how are we feeling?
Goth Household: Year 1, Round 1 - Spring
Welcome to Rosebury! Rosebury is a custom neighborhood created by me, with all the premade neighborhoods added as subhoods. I’ve moved some premade households to the main neighborhood and play them rotationally, but only them. Sims from the subhoods are treated as townies, and played Sims can befriend or romance them - or worse. Here, I share pictures and stories of their lives, so I can keep track of where I left off when I take breaks. Feel free to join me on this journey! You can read more about the town and the households here.
I started with the Goths, thus Cassandra and Don's wedding. Unfortunately (or fortunately for Cassandra's sake), Don left her at the altar. While Cassandra went into aspiration failure, Mortimer lectured Don. To make things worse, Mortimer married Dina and abandoned his family, even Alexander. Wow. Anyway, the next day Darren invited Cassandra to the skating rink. As soon as they arrived, she rolled a want to fall in love, which wasn't hard to do since they have 3 bolts of chemistry and were already good friends. Then she also rolled a want to get engaged to him, so she either moved on quickly or, as a family Sim, she really wants a baby. Or both. I had them go steady and locked in the engagement want. They didn't do much skating but certainly woohooed in Cassandra's car.
After returning from the date at 2 AM, the ghosts set some bushes on fire, so poor Cassandra didn’t get much sleep before work. While she was away, Alexander did his homework and became friends with Daniel Bell. The next day, Cassandra worked on her skills to get a promotion and is now a science teacher! She also threw a surprise birthday party for Alexander, who grew up to be a primary Family, secondary Knowledge Sim, just like his big sister. After aging up to a teen and enjoying the birthday cake, they played some Don't Wake the Llama with the guests. Meanwhile, the ghosts set the bushes on fire again and everyone panicked, but the party was still a good time lol. Now Alexander wants to fall in love and go steady with someone, so on the last night of spring, he went to the local club but had no luck finding love. Maybe next time.
I certainly wasn't being as discreet as I thought. In fact, I should have been suspicious throughout the day. Winifred Hyde spent the day avoiding me as if I were afflicted with some extremely contagious disease. As for Godfrey Moreland, ah… that one made a point of looking for me with his eyes all day. Foolish as I am, I figured I would soon have to refuse him any requests of a romantic nature, but of course he wasn't interested in me in that way… he was looking. Searching for evidence.
And I gave it to him.
As I was gathering some fruit that night, my mouth already watering with hunger and anticipation, I heard a voice that left me speechless.
Godfrey Moreland saw me. And he could have ended me. No one would really miss one less crew member… a night storm and a clumsy woman who got too close to the edge of the boat… and maybe I would have preferred it. End it all.
But he made a point of yelling how dishonest I was being and leading me to my room. I haven't tried leaving again, but I have a feeling he's making the rounds on my doorstep.
I hate him.

*ED EDD N EDDY RESEARCH PT2*
~ STYLE OF IMAGE ~
Antonucci wanted a unique look to the cartoon and wanted to stand out from the other cartoons aired on Cartoon Network at the time. The other cartoons a had simple straight line art style. Antonucci used a technique where even though the animation is static, the line art will constantly move, called the boiling line technique. In order to achieve this look, the artist/inker would trace the same drawing three times to give the illusion that the still image is moving when show on tv, because it’s shot every three frames. Every character has different coloured tongues in the cartoon which was not a random design choice; it was actually because one day Antonucci was working in his office, when his son and his friends came in and all had different coloured tongues from the sweets they were eating and he thought it was cool and implemented it into the character’s design. To really develop each character’s personalities, Antonucci made sure to have every character have their own walk and run style to better differentiate them. Even Ed, Edd n Eddy’s blinks are different according to Antonucci.
~ BEHIND THE SCENES ~
To create an episode, a scenario is created on how Eddy will come up with a business plan to make money. The scenario will be given to writers to expand it to a four page outline with gags and quips. Once it’s approved, a script an dialogue is added, then it’s storyboarded. It's then presented to the production, final touches are added, then it’s voice acted and animated. The voices even thought out for the characters, particularly Ed, Edd n Eddy. Ed is airheaded, so his voice is goofy sounding and he talks a lot of rubbish that doesn’t make any sense. Double D is nervous and nerdy, so hos voice is nasally and high. Eddy is greedy and ambitious, so his voice is loud and conniving.
This is my farmer, Brian who has just moved into his grandpa’s old place. Thankfully some seeds were left behind to get him started.
Artist Research and Inspiration: Character Design, Style and Colour.
The film that inspired me the most throughout this project is Disney’s animated film Tangled (2010). I recently bought the Art of Tangled book and since a lot of the film is set in the forest, and my story is also set in the forest, it became a big inspiration for me.
Artist like Glen Keane and Jin Kim have such distinct styles of drawing that are super appealing to look at because they look so fluid, artist and as it the were done effortlessly.
GLEN KEANE
Above is some of the expressive drawings that Glen Keane did for Rapunzel. Even though, I looked at Glen Keane and Tangled for my first character design. I decided to post about him again because I am inspired by him still. I just love his art style and the way his pencil markings are so particular in certain areas, how in some parts the marks are darker and some parts its lighter. His drawings always look so alive and they really capture light so well.
JIN KIM
The sketches above are by an artist called Jin Kim. I discovered that he worked very heavily in the character development and designs during Tangled, when I was looking through The Art of Tangled book. I am not sure what else he worked on but I love his style and drawings. Much like Glen Keane he s able to capture light within his drawings even in just a normal pencil sketch. I love how he has well thought out lines and marks in his work. Both Jin Kim and Glen Keane have influenced me to experiment more and develop more drawings of my character and fill sketchbook. From these drawings I think it helps to draw more as you are more familiar with the character you have created and in turn are able to understand their personality more and therefore capture that in the simplest pencil drawing.
BYRON HOWARD
This is a colour study that I was inspired by when colouring my Alter Ego character. I love the way the character is transformed with the colours and style of outfit. The red one is poised, kind of shows a strong figure in the character. The colour red definitely helps this feature as it makes the character stand out; and even though the dress is the same in all the drawings the green makes the dress suddenly look a whole lot more droopy. Thus, making the character appear more helpless. Overall, I love the style and complete composition of the work by Byron Howard. I think he has a great way of capturing the characters in way that enhances their personality while creating a simple colour palette that is harmonious.
