EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH YOKE LORE
Fuel The Media member, Daisy Beltran, got the opportunity to briefly talk with Indie pop musician from New York, Adrian Galvin also known as Yoke Lore. Find out how Adrian’s journey has been with touring and new music!
*FTM = Fuel The Media *YL = Yoke Lore FTM: Welcome back to SLC. Last time you were here was back in October with Bay Ledges as a sold out show. YL: Thank you, it was great. I had no idea what to expect from Salt Lake. I never played here before. I’ve grew up skiing in Snowbird. I’ve never played music here. When we were booking our first west coast headline tour. My manager was like half of your Pandora listeners are from Salt Lake City. So we’re going to send you to Salt Lake City. I thought that was super random, that’s totally cool!
FTM: What can fans expect different from this show compare to that show? YL: We aren’t playing in a garage. *laughs* I mean The Loading Dock people were very nice people. But the venue was an actual landing dock. The last show was very intimate, everyone was so tight and packed. There was positives and negatives to that. This is going to be very different. More spacious, the sound is going to be bigger.
FTM: Can you give us some insight into what it was like to record your recent EP Absolutes ? YL: Yeah I recorded most of it in the desert. You get up, drive, meet people, soundcheck. Do the show, hug fans. I’m kind of an introvert a little bit. So doing all this extraversion brings me out of my comfort zone in a wonderful way. But it also exhausts me to an essential level. So I need to find moments of isolation after I give up so much of myself. So I use nature to kind of get me back into that.
I made a lot of Absolutes at the end of couple of different tours in Joshua Tree. Which is a desert outside of Los Angeles. After I finish a tour, I go out to the desert to spend a few days recuperating. Then I fly out my producer out and make songs.
FTM: With the stresses of touring, how do you manage that? YL: I do yoga every morning, I try to every single morning. It keeps my mind and body sane. And lots of Panda Express. I’m just like a New York kid, so fucking Chinese food runs in my veins. So when I don’t have it, I go cranky. And I also listen to lots of Podcasts. I’m like a big history nerd so I really love history Podcasts.
FTM: What gets you up every morning to keep making music? YL: Doing music, it’s like magic. And I live to do it, it’s unbeatable. It’s all I want to do ever.
FTM: Who is YOKE LORE? YL: Yoke Lore is not necessarily a value system but a value ranking system. A YOKE is to bind something, and LORE is to tell about it. For me, value in life comes from things fights together and commuting about those points of contact is what makes those points of contacts stronger and full of integrity. I want to take that idea and use it everywhere. Like carpentry, my love life. And when I’m driving, when I’m thinking about my future. I want it all to be informed by the idea that connections create integrity and that you should tell the world about it.
FTM: Are there any last words you would like to say? YL: Never whistle while you’re pissing.
