Yellowdapple - Warrior
Confident, great teacher
Bio below:
Yellowdapple grew up under odd circumstances. His parent, Heathernibble, was actually his adoptive guardian. Heathernibble made sure that he knew from a young age that his biological parents had loved him very much, but one had passed away before he was born and the other hadn't survived his birth. But Yellowdapple's relationship with Heathernibble was still a strained one. The two of them rarely spoke, and Yellowdapple spent much more time with Heathernibble's sibling, Pearlstalk.
By the time Yellowdapple was old enough to potentially understand the context behind his upbringing, Heathernibble and Pearlstalk had both already passed away. Their remaining sibling, Shyfruit, survived a lot longer, but Yellowdapple had only ever had negative interactions with them. All he was left with was a deep desire to find a place in the clan and a reason for others to accept him.
In following this mission, Yellowdapple was a model clanmate. Even as a kit he was polite and kind. He always considered others' needs and was there to offer them assistance if it was needed. Although he would never voice his true motivations, wanting to appear relaxed in order to be more approachable, he craved the attention that came with helping another cat. Being needed was everything to him.
As a young warrior, Yellowdapple's helpfulness made him a target for Mottlenewt, a slightly younger tom. When they developed a slightly flirtatious dynamic, Yellowdapple was quick to offer Mottlenewt help with anything he needed. But when Yellowdapple realized that they weren't compatible shortly after getting to know him better, Yellowdapple became trapped. It quickly became clear that he had no idea how to reject someone.
Several moons passed, and Mottlenewt became bolder in his pursuit of Yellowdapple. A part of Yellowdapple was thrilled to have so much admiration pushed his way, but his inability to stop Mottlenewt also terrified him. The idea of souring their relationship sent Yellowdapple into a panic, and he was growing increasingly dependent on Mottlenewt's attention. It took one of the clan's medatiors checking in on him after one of Mottlenewt's dramatic confessions for Yellowdapple to gather the will to reject him properly.
It took a lot of guidance from the mediator den, but Yellowdapple was eventually able to distance himself from his relentless suitor. Mottlenewt had assumed that Yellowdapple's hesitance was just shyness, and although the reality of his disinterest was a hard pill to swallow they were able to part on fairly good terms.
This stressful experience put Yellowdapple off of romance for a long time. He focused on his work and tried to push himself out of his overly accommodating habits. He mostly practiced this on cats he didn't like as much, drawing new boundaries and setting himself free of obligations that he'd never felt comfortable fulfilling.
One such cat was Sproutheart, one of the deputy's kits and a shameless showoff. Yellowdapple had been distributing feathers found on patrol as gifts to his clanmates, and Sproutheart had turned their back on him mid-delivery and walked away. Their brazenness put them right on Yellowdapple's bad side, and he vowed not to waste his effort on their rudeness again.
From this point on, Sproutheart frequently challenged his resolve. As if they knew he was avoiding them, they bothered him on patrols and asked silly questions that he suspected were tricks. When these frustrating exchanges turned increasingly personal, Yellowdapple felt forced to confront Sproutheart directly. But when he summoned his courage to ask why they were picking on him, Sproutheart claimed that they had just been flirting.
Yellowdapple was hesitant to believe this at first, but in retrospect their nonsensical conversations began to make more sense. And as he put the pieces together, Yellowdapple realized that he had said things that must have sounded flirtatious in return. He tried to clear this up with Sproutheart, but they only laughed and called him cute. Another befuddling interaction.
It became harder to brush off Sproutheart after this, and he only got more flustered the longer they'd talk. Eventually, he realized that he was completely wrapped up in another cat again. But this time, it didn't feel so scary. It felt comforting to have someone give him the attention he'd always wanted without any pressure to mold himself to their needs. Yellowdapple had been rude to Sproutheart, had pushed them away and said foolish things, and yet they took it all in stride. They had never once wanted him to accommodate them.
Through some clever wordplay one day, Sproutheart got Yellowdapple to agree that they should become mates. He was embarrassed at first to have once again gotten the wool pulled over his eyes, but the elation at being accepted so deeply by a cat he'd come to love quickly became more important. It was a silly start to their partnership, but an immensely happy one nonetheless.
Yellowdapple's model clanmate persona morphed into a goofy, devoted mate to Sproutheart. With their support he was able to create more boundaries with his clanmates and satisfy himself with doing a good job rather than aniticpating every possible need around camp. He was still just as kind and thoughtful as ever, just not so dependent on the positive reactions of others.
Yellowdapple was elated to welcome their first litter, Sapkit and Amberkit soon after they got together. They cultivated close family bonds and although Yellowdapple would admit to not understanding his children very well he still loved them nonetheless. He and Sproutheart had one more litter, Tumblekit and Pelicankit, before Sapback was tragically killed during a patrol. The whole family grieved his loss together.
Yellowdapple lived to see Tumblejoy and Pelicandaze grow up into wonderful, slightly eccentric warriors, before his time came to join Sapback in Starclan. He had prioritized his family up until his last days, and when he suddenly collapsed during a walk outside of camp he knew he'd be reunited with them one day.
