It’s not ED related but I’m so impressed by my resolve!!!
TLDR: I said no to buying a new car and I’m really proud of myself 😁
I went to do an oil change at my dealership and they ALWAYS come to ask me to get into a new vehicle and I always say no. Today, the same lady who sold me my current car came up and was really going for the sale. I told her I didn’t want a new vehicle and I didn’t want to pay any more money than I have to. Well, she went and got 2 more sales people and tried to guilt me into “looking” at the newer version of my car and saying she went across the lot to get it (I didn’t ask her to do that). I told her I’d recently been in one and I loved it too much to even consider sitting in a new one because I’ll drive it off the lot. She was very persistent and I had to literally hide my eyes from her and look away and tell her that I don’t want to see the new car.
She left (kind of upset but that’s not my problem) and her associate was taking to me and I explained to him that she is a good salesperson because she got me my current car when I just went to the lot to look at their trucks way back when. I know she’s good and even though she says she wants to do baby steps, I can’t start paying to lease a car when I’m making progress on paying off this car.
Not to mention, I LOVE my car and I don’t want ANYONE ELSE to own it because I know they won’t care for it as I do. I make sure all the maintenance is done on time and I pay for the packages that allow for the oil changes to be covered so I have one less thing to worry about when I come in.
I am already in so much student loan debt that I need this $500+ that I’m paying monthly for my car to come back to me so I can pay off those loans and enjoy my hard earned money instead of giving it to other people.
Anyway, he thanked me for my honesty and that I didn’t want to waste their time because many people will let them go through their whole spiel and even do the test drive when they don’t even want a car.
Just wanted to share this good feeling and remind you readers that as long as you’re able to, don’t lease a car. You’re pretty much renting it for 3 years and then it’s an ongoing cycle. If you can get a reliable vehicle, it’s better to pay it off so you can pocket your own money. Also, pay more than they are asking from you each month or you’ll be like me and pay for 3+ years for it not to make a bit of difference in your payoff amount. I honestly thought I’d own my car by now but I still owe $20,000ish because I was making the monthly payments they told me about. (When I started leasing my car 7 years ago , it was valued at $36,000!) Make extra payments and tell them to put it towards the principal so your car can be paid off faster. Good luck out there!
