Just bought the last Maximum Ride book
But I'm rereading Angel first so I can actually understand it.
Gosh, this series was like the best goddamn thing in middle school.
Now bits of it kind of piss me off.
Like Angel. She's not good, she's not bad, she's not even gray morality, she's just like all over the place. It's like one day she's adorable and perfect and Max's little girl and then the next she's all "MUAHAHA I AM GOING TO TAKE OVER THE WORRRRLD"
Is that what all seven year olds are like? I really have no idea.
Also the romance is so frigging over the top. Like seriously, it dominates at least two-thirds of Max's narration in Angel, and probably more of Fang's considering he has so little in the first place. And Dylan, you are kind of adorakable, but you are not at all subtle.
Suddenly I realized that Dylan had shifted his position to fly barely two feet above me, matching me wing stroke for wing stroke.
"What are you doing?" I asked, craning to look up at him.
"I like this view," he said . . . . "I like watching your . . . power. You're a beautiful flier. Your hair is streaming through the air like silk ribbon. The sun is shining on your feathers."
