the pirate only responded with a slight hum, almost distractedly. his eyes were glued to his feet, a deep frown etched into the features of his face, his bottom lip near-bruised, caught between his teeth as edward chewed on it.

he was concentrating. rather intensely.

ed was usually, for the most part, incredibly relaxed around stede, in his embrace. and yet, now he couldn’t be further from that comfortable state of ease. his hands were placed awkwardly on the gentleman’s body, and every movement that he made was incredibly stiff.

another wrong step, but ed is the one that flinches when he steps on stede’s toes. again.

❝ fuck. sorry. ❞ he grumbles. the frustration is clear in ed’s tone, and the way his fingers curl into the fabric of stede’s shirt. with a heavy sigh of defeat and exasperation, the pirate moves to pull away from the embrace. maybe it was time to give up.

but he doesn’t want to, though. he wants to be able to dance with stede. the same way all those fancy folk get to dance with their partners.
