Yet I Dared
“Don’t you fuckin’ dare."
Asher sighed and squeezed his eyes shut, leaning forward on the rose-patterned couch. He had to compose himself. Had to push it all down and yet confess at the same time. It was maddening.
"That’s it. Those were his last words. Me own son’s dying words to his father."
Aurelio sat in his gaudy-patterned chair (ducks, because Aurelio liked the way they clashed with his velvety purple drapes) and felt a heaviness settle on his chest. The Lord felt for Asher, he really did: the man’s life had been none too easy, though majority of Asher’s own decisions were what led him sprinting down his dark paths.
"Are you harboring guilt, Asher? By that I mean…do you feel as though you should have listened to him?"
A pause. The vampire didn’t look up at his Sire. Couldn’t, perhaps, or simply wouldn’t. After a moment’s thought, Asher looked up, an amused and yet pained smirk spreading across his face. His eyes glistened with fresh tears, hot and ashamed.
”Fuck no.“
