PARK YUNMI && BAE WOOSUN › “it takes two to make an accident.” ― f. scott fitzgerald, the great gatsby

one half of woosun had spent the day attempting to find an excuse not to see yunmi, that her accusation of there being something wrong ( which there was ) was something he could ignore and eventually she would forget. it’s not as if she was someone he’d known to be the most comforting of people, but the more he thought about her offer, the more he couldn’t seem to rustle up a decent excuse. the alcohol that he swallowed down, undoubtedly, gave little aid to his problem and he found himself dragging his feet to her door.
the plan he had come up was simple : tell her he was fine, smile and laugh, and then she would believe him.
liquid courage still burned his throat as he stood in front of her door, staring at the handle as if it might grow teeth and bite him. it was not as if he wanted to be alone in his room anyway, the bottle of alcohol in hand and miserably waiting until he was intoxicated enough that he could fall asleep. the plastic bottle in hand was brought up--another mouthful--before he raised his hand up to knock at the door. his lips forced into a curled smile, pinned in the corners as he waited for her to answer.
“yunmi-ah! open up! before someone catches me!” woosun brightly spoke, hushing his voice at some attempt to be covert in sneaking into the girls dorm. its not as if he had any plans to be up to no good -- he hadn’t thought that far ahead about being caught in the girls dorm. it was only when he heard someone else down the hall that he remembered he wasn’t supposed to be there. “i can’t get in trouble. please.”

Upon being enrolled in Sunhwa he had already decided to be the best he could possibly be. And if he couldn’t be the best, he’d make it seem like he was regardless. So besides trying his utmost to do well in all his classes, Yongha had also decided that he had to join at least one club and one sport. Becoming a photographer for the school’s newspaper was a no-brainer. He’s already recording every step he takes in one way or the other, so that was easy. Sports, however... that was different. Running was usually his way of keeping in shape, but that’s where his athleticism stopped. He was relatively good at catching stuff, though -- and using his hands had never been a problem, so after concluding that while adding his height, basketball sounded like a good solution.
But after deciding on a sport, he still had to learn how to play it: hence Yunmi.
There wasn’t much left of Yongha’s pride to begin with, not after succumbing to every beck and call of his father once he showed up roughly a year ago, but something still kept him from demanding too much of his teammates. He joined knowing fully well that he had very little to contribute, so to demand that they teach him in the same breath was a bit too much, even for him. Instead he had turned to someone who he had seen on the court countless times, and who didn’t seem to make nearly as many mistakes as he did. She made everything she did look effortless, and that’s how he wanted to look, too. After some admiring from afar he even went as far as to ask her to teach him. And, to his surprise, she agreed.
Which leads him to the empty court yet again, now sporting shorts and a t-shirt with a basketball trapped between the palms of both his hands. He may look ready, but he probably wasn’t. But ‘fake it till you make it’ hadn’t become his motto for nothing. With his full attention on the task at hand he looked at the fellow first year, equipped with a smile and a positive attitude: the two things needed to survive what would possibly be a very humbling experience. “I’m ready.”
