This is a group I think is worthy to support -- YG2D or You’re Going To Die.
We all acknowledge this here. So what is this group about?
In sum, it’s about bringing mortality awareness.
It began as an open-mic poetry night in California, and it’s spread. It’s still pretty much based in California, but they offer events and workshops over Zoom to work through grief and heal.
They also offer a shop, and support prison outreach in Alive Inside, and musical/artistic outreach to hospice patients in Songs for Life. I know I’ve shown here musical and sound therapy in hospice and hospital settings, so I definitely support their support of sound and art in such areas.
They also seem to be a part of “WATA” -- We Are Tomorrow’s Ancestors, which focuses on Black and Indigenous Healing.
Going even beyond that, they have a podcast. It seems they have a new episode every two weeks, so that’s a pretty good update schedule.
Overall, this seems to be a group that focuses on Death Positivity and Memento Mori, which are absolutely two things I’m about. They’ve taken further steps to support hospice and prison life, as well as minorities, and inclusion of the arts.
They’re making things more accessible by Zoom.
I’d love to see them expand further, to have live events out here in the Midwest, and all the way to the other coast -- perhaps one day, the world.
For now, I’m content to introduce all of you to this, and perhaps as I further explore what they have to offer, they’ll give me more insight to relay to all of you, too.
