There is a careless abandon in the swing of Anzu’s body as she dances, hiding the studied years of repetition it takes to get a dancer’s deliberation of movement, all sharp edges and graceful turns. Anzu dancing is Anzu at ease in her body in a way few others are, letting loose in a crowd of movement, an easy dance of grace. Anzu catches her gaze, smiles, and Ishizu can’t help the smile she gives in return.

Anzu says nothing, but there’s something distinctively tactile in her gaze, her eyes gliding over Ishizu, although they betray nothing of her feelings. She feels vulnerable, as if she was being taken apart and studied beneath that gaze, but for what purpose? Ishizu thinks that there must be some part of the girl that has not forgiven, that will not forget, how her brother used her.

"Come and dance," Anzu says, hand outstretched, a small, hopeful look on her face.

"I’m not sure how," Ishizu says in return, the teach me implied in the tone of her voice.

"It’s easy," and with that, Anzu gently takes Ishizu’s hands and places them on her waist.

"Just listen to the music, and pay attention to my movements."

There’s a soothing element to Anzu’s voice, the tone of someone who knows what they’re doing, the voice of competence. Ishizu lets herself be led, letting the music fill her senses, immersing herself in the action of dance until that’s all there is, the beat thrumming through her blood, and the maintenance of her hands against Anzu’s waist, and the flex of muscles. There’s something thrilling in learning to the shift of muscles of a more experienced partner, in following, and letting oneself go.

The song gradually fades away into the next, and they stand there together, at an impasse.

"For someone who says they weren’t sure how, you dance pretty well."

"I follow a good teacher," Ishizu replies, the hint of a smile on her face. "And… As part of my education, I learnt many of the old dances from the age of the Pharaohs."

She doesn’t like talking about her childhood, or lack of one, but there’s something hopeful in Anzu’s eyes, the light of the curious, and enthusiastic. 

"Come," Ishizu says, leading her to the bar. "I’ll tell you about them."

like i understand what youre saying too, but you can't change "sexy women are eyecandy" to "sexy women AREN'T eyecandy" without showing sexual women...not being eyecandy

yes....which is why jaime alexander and natalie portman and kat dennings were all in the movie. all extremely sexy and sexual women--but not eyecandy.  nobody took off their shirt, there was barely any cleavage, jane wore wellies for gods sake.

the star trek reboot is not a good example of that given that it's a girl saying "dont look" and then a male character looking anyways - there's no consent. that's completely different from sif feeling free to, idk, wash her shoulders or smth w/ thor

no im talking about the first film too. kirk canoodling with random green girl in her underwear. name of girl?? who knows, mentioned once. lt uhura?? LOOK UNDERWEAR SHE'S CHANGING AND KIRK IS UNDER THE BED WATCHING OH HO HO VERY FUNNY LOOK SHE KICKED HIM OUT. HOW STRONG. SUCH WOMAN. MUCH CHARACTER.

the second was a travesty. at least uhura wasnt half naked in this one but christine chapel is written off as That Girl Jim Fucked Once and carol marcus, after telling him to turn around as she's changing, gets a head to knees underwear shot, every muscle defined, arms out as if to say "look at meeeee even though i told you not tooo". this entire scene was written for men by men and the entire point of it is to say "LOOK THIS WOMAN IS A STRONG SEXY FEMALE CHARACTER OHOOHO"

if you REALLY wanted to do a scene where it's serious that she doesn't want him looking at her, you shoot it from shoulders up and you write her visibly upset. you can bet if a scenario like this had taken place with sif and thor she would have slapped him right over the bifrost

none of that is even close to what i said/meant to say but like you can have??? sexual or revealing shots of female characters while still not objectifying them as long as theyre still treated as their own people and not just smth to fuck so.

it comes off as cheap bc culture is so inundated with naked women and such. like a sexual shot of Sif, say, bathing after a battle unless shot like its nothing will come off as cheap eye candy bc look! a naked woman lets pan around and slowly come up her back or whatever

believe me i would not have complained had they managed to put in a semirevealing shot of jaime's body but like. it's so tropey you just can't really pull it off. like the only scene i think ive ever seen where a semi-naked or bathing woman in a fantasy film was not naked just to be naked or bathing just to be bathing was ravenna in snow white and the hunstman

like i get where you're coming from now but in the frame of reference of culture that we have, almost any revealing shot of a woman is going to come off as sexual objectification
