Simone Monsi (b. 1988, Italy) is a YIBA Young Internet-Based Artist and in his work he investigates the sensitivity of youth culture and its representation on microblogging platforms, from which he takes viral images and contents. In his practice, blogging becomes a method for indexing dynamic collections of popular melancholic sentences, video stills from Evangelion and post-porn gifs, while sculpture, installation and social networks are parts of a broader process that makes his works become memes themselves, once reposted online. He recently graduated from the MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths, London.

Recent exhibitions and projects include Cyphoria, curated by Domenico Quaranta (16th Art Quadriennale, Rome), We’re Having a Great Time :) (ROCKELMANN &, Berlin), Like Mops on the Beach (Green Ray, London), Feeling The Walls (The Breeder, Athens) and the fandom www.stillsfromevangelion.tumblr.com.

Simone Monsi (Italia 1988) è un YIBA Young Internet-Based Artist e nel suo lavoro esplora la sensibilità delle culture giovanili e la loro rappresentazione su piattaforme di microblogging, dalle quali estrapola immagini e contenuti virali. Il blog diventa metodo per indicizzare collezioni dinamiche composte di popolari frasi melanconiche, fermi immagine di Evangelion e gif post-porno, mentre la scultura, l’installazione e i social network sono momenti di un unico processo che porta le opere a diventare esse stesse immagini virali una volta ripostate online. Ha da poco concluso un MFA alla Goldsmiths University di Londra.

Simone Monsi (b. 1988, Italy) is a YIBA Young Internet-Based Artist and recently graduated from the MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths University, London. The content and images framed in his work are culled from time spent on social media, which are subsequently translated into digital pictures and physical objects recalling an online-offline hybrid aesthetics. Through the use of appropriation in the form of online collections, he investigates ambiguous relationships between identity and authenticity. Fascinated by microblogging platforms effects on the perception of the self, his work reflects on reality through dream spaces and investigates the idea of suspension of time through communities of sharers.

Simone Monsi (Italia 1988) e un YIBA Young Internet-Based Artist e ha da poco concluso un MFA Fine Art alla Goldsmiths University di Londra. Il contenuto e le immagini utilizzate nel suo lavoro sono il risultato del tempo passato sui social media, poi tradotte in oggetti scultorei che richiamano un’estetica ibrida online-offline. Attraverso l’appropriazione sotto forma di collezioni di immagini digitali, Simone investiga la relazione ambigua tra i concetti di identità e autenticità. Affascinato dall’effetto delle piattaforme di microblogging sulla percezione del sé, il suo lavoro riflette sulla realtà attraverso luoghi onirici ed esplora l’idea della sospensione del tempo attraverso comunità di bloggers.
