Maybe you get those freaky post a lot because you interact with them a lot?!? My feed is always filled with soft fics like most of the time that I have to go to depths of hell to bring out the nsfw one but still yeah if you want soft one you can Google them instead of searching here, much better result
If you engage more with fluffy or softer content, tumblr does seem to pick up on that and push more of it your way! But for someone like me, who doesn’t like or reblog anything at all, tumblr really doesn’t have much to go on in terms of tailoring my feed 💔 I only use tumblr for my own works and might scroll a bit, so the algorithm kind of defaults to whatevers most popular in the tags I follow. And since nsfw posts tend to get alot of notes and attention in the fandom, that ends up being what I see the most of!! tumblr boosts posts based on overall engagement in certain tags, especially in big fandoms like haikyuu where alot of content overlaps. So even if I’m not interacting personally, the most reblogged or popular content still gets pushed to the top of my dash just because it’s getting the most traction. Which makes sense from an algorithm standpoint even if I’m not personally interacting with it at all!
I get your point though, I think both experiences make sense, they’re just shaped by how we use the platform differently!! 💖
