Hisham Akira Bharoocha is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Bharoocha was a founding member of Black Dice and Pixeltan. Since leaving Black Dice he has performed solo and as a member of Boredoms, Kill Alters, IIII, and Soft Circle but has now shifted his sonic direction under the name YOKUBARI. A note from Hisham on the 13th CCC Mix, 'Suimenka': Suimenka means underwater in Japanese but can also mean behind closed doors, behind the scenes, or below the surface. The ocean is beautiful yet terrifying to me as a city dweller. The only interaction I have is surfing on the surface of it occasionally or swimming in it but when I am in a strong ocean current, I feel afraid. The energy of one human has no strength compared to what the ocean can do in a moment. I respect the ocean and its power. This mix is the sonification of this image I have of the ocean. So much wonder, moments of fear of what it could do to me, the meditative rhythms it creates underwater as well as at the surface.
