i know i just posted about Love Scout being amazing because it didn't have miscommunication and whatnot. partly due to their maturity and age.

with Love Your Enemy, the main thing is that their miscommunication happened when they were 18. young, fresh and bushy-tailed, 2 jiwons were just kids. and of course, every single thing becomes hard to say or communicate at that age. with how badly their relationship ended, it's no wonder that their adult versions were traumatised and shaped by that experience.

fast-forwarding 18 years, our Jiwons are adults and more secure in themselves. yoonji has been worn down by unfortunate and traumatic events, but seokji is more emotionally stable because of how he didn't really have the same issues to deal with (although he always watched from afar).

so when our jiwons meet again, yoonji is reminded of her last words to him being to never contact her again (and how, to her, he really never contacted her. so many issues), and seokji is reminded of how "she" cruelly told him to leave her alone (and supposedly not opening her window for him despite throwing stones 3 times).

they remember the painful way their relationship ended, and its no wonder every dialogue is tainted with that pain. they never truly mean the hurtful words they say, instead, it's just their 18 year-old selves begging to be heard. honestly, every time they have a conversation, i find myself actively reading between the lines and hearing what they actually mean.

it's so fascinating how we, the audience, pick up on the words' true meanings and doesn't that make our pain more visceral? we're anxiously waiting for our jiwons to make up and get back together, while we see them just making it harder for themselves every time they hide their true feelings behind their jabs.

(although, their eyes don't lie. and we know the yearning they have for each other although they don't admit it just yet.)

in my opinion, the show has some exceptionally written dialogue. from the hidden meanings to the easy tiki-taka that the characters have (which never went away despite their separation), i think the dialogues really boost the characters' chemistry. it's so entertaining every time they banter because do they really mean what they say? or are they trying to get the other jiwon to realise what they really mean?
