the inspiration for yoon hee lee's bizarrely beautiful s/s 2011 collection at sao paulo fashion week was a transcendental journey. the designer further explained this as (rough translation) "when the soul is released from the body when you wake up, but the body lies there."
thus, through the usage of sheers, metals, and other materials of varying weights, the designer pulled & stretched at the figure, remarkably morphing it while at once keeping it intact. and i'm not sure whether it was a conscious decision to use some of the skinniest models available lest they look fat with a little extra padding, but homegirl below this paragraph has skinny-ass legs about to snap under the pressure of the intense weight of the sheer fabric piled on her torso. so expecting a saw movie bone-splitting moment am i, the clothes become of lesser significance.
but no, the clothes are phenomenal. there's not a lot of commercial appeal here, but it doesn't matter, because most of these pieces belong in a museum. furthermore, when sometimes tedium with fashion sets in, it's nice to see collections such as this one, to be reminded there are still so many creative & wonderful things that might be done.
