You-Are-Different
Stale shades of blue cascade from the light making you look more dastardly than the last time I saw you. Traitorous circles around your eyes scream of the pain you caused. So obvious to everyone but you. The smile you once wore is now a look of shame. Assuredly from the sex and scotch that you replaced for me. Alone, you are. How did we get here? The roads we took didn’t seem possible, yet they were paved into the ground like they were mapped out by a higher power. One we both don’t believe in. Should I even try anymore. Or should I give up? It seems like you’ve been doing that far longer than I and still you’ve come out on top. I am left empty with only the words that bounce from my head to my fingers and then to the pages in front of me. Each words carries its own meaning even though they all point in the same direction. You-are-different. Unusual. Strange. Atypical. You symbolizes something that I am not. Are is for the way you carry yourself, something that you possess. Different indicates an abnormality that has sprouted over time. Like a cancer, perhaps? One that hasn’t finished you off. These things begin to fester from within, again, like a cancer. In time it will consume every inch of your self-deprecating body. There won’t be a soul left, for the cancer is your soul.
