The birds are playing a con game, trying to take turns with each other making distractions so the other one can steal Ed's fries=
At first he had thought the crows were showing off when they both started to show him what they could do. But when Ed glanced at his fries after a few tricks, he noticed his stack of fries were noticeably lower than what he had eaten.
Ed gave them both the look. “Did Greed teach you to do that?”

Ed started a bit, catching himself, cheek resting against the palm of his hand, and looking. He couldn’t deny that sometimes he found himself staring at Greed. He tired not to, but Greed was a good-looking man, and he had had a couple extra drinks tonight and while by no means drunk, he felt more relaxed than normal. What kept his focus on his friend, though, was the tired and almost beaten down look on Greed’s face while he was cleaning up the bar.
He scrunched up his nose and tilted his head a bit. His eyes followed Greed’s line of sight, down to the cigarette butt stuffed in the ashtray. Then his eyes moved back up, and Ed had seen that look before and had a pretty good idea what Greed was considering. “Whatcha doin’?”

“On a scale of 1-10, how funky does your shit get while being naked in the sewers? Asking for a friend.”
Ed tried so hard to be crabby about this and say no, but damn he kind of, sort of loved liked them. He picked them up, and his face soured more. “Fine, be that way,” he grumped as he put them on.
