Listening to the Peace
Many of you know that I am a Lay Dominican.
This journey began just a few years ago and I am hoping to make final promises by the end of next year. During my formation, I have had assignments for study that have challenged me and taught me much while contemplating God’s plan for me.
Recently, during one of my lessons I began to think about a trip to Rome I took in 2001, long before I had ever heard of the Lay Dominicans. Our spiritual guide happened to be a Dominican Brother who was the Campus Minister at the high school my children attended. One of the first places we visited with him was the Basilica of Santa Sabina, the world headquarters of the entire Dominican family.
We celebrated Holy Mass there, I purchased handfuls of rosaries to bring back to my family and we walked around this beautiful church which I would later learn is where St. Thomas Aquinas began work on his incredible Summa Theologica.
Thirteen years later, I remember the feeling of my soul as I walked the grounds. Unlike any of the other magnificent churches of Rome, this place settled me at the time. I had such a sense of peace there. This feeling of peace is only present when God is present. God was calling me to the Dominican Family and I had no clue, being married, the I could be a part of it. But then, God sent very special people into my life so that I could discover this path to living my life with Him. For this, I am grateful.
Take a moment and remember a time and place in your life that you felt God’s peace. He was surely talking to you there.
1. Where were you?
2. What were you doing?
3. Who were you with?
There could be some answers to questions of God’s plan for you living your life with Him in that experience. Be silent and listen to His whispers. What is God saying to you?
