technically for the cats (and most other youkai) they shouldn't have lastnames/family names in Edo period, but I'm using Himata for the cats as a clan name and kinda just to differentiate who has been officially adopted in and who are just part of the household as servants/workers

but not as much is expected of those cats as the ones with official adoptions, and they can leave easily if they wish

I keep saying I need to make art of my cats (minus Takumi), but fancy hair makes me worried

For the cat squad, what’s their relationships with each other?

Makoto and Matasuke are basically a married couple, and the heads of the clan. Matasuke acts as the "face" while Makoto is the one who really make all the decisions.

Makoto also has a secondary human form, which basically looks like a younger version of her "Makoto" form. In this form she goes by Aotama, and she's supposedly Makoto and Matasuke's daughter, but it's mostly so they can ensure one of them "inherits" when one of them "dies" and they can go on without humans suspecting too much.

Takumi is, vaguely? their adopted son but he acts more as security for the other cats. O Nami is working to be "adopted" and in the hierarchy she'd be the youngest child.

Kurenai and Yawatama are part of the household but not officially adopted beyond that they are in an industry where an "older sister" will be the person who trains a "younger sister" and take care of her. Kurenai was "Aotama's" little sister in this system and Yawatama was the younger sister of a cat who is no longer part of the house.

O Suzu is something like a childhood friend of Takumi's. She's the caretaker of a small shrine on the edge of the city and performs ceremonies for the cats and some of the other youkai.
