As the second day of the festival arrives, it brings Tanabata with it. Wind chimes gently sway in the summer breeze, streamers shiver, and around the festival, youkai hang colorful strips of paper on the branches of green bamboo stalks, where they’ve written down wishes for this star festival. In the sky, two stars shine even in the daylight.
A river of starlight splits the grounds in two, seeming to stretch forever along where the main road once was. While humans can walk through with ease as if ankle-height water, the youkai cannot cross, repelled by some magical energy. Across either side stand two gods in flashy summer yukata, separated by fate, who introduce themselves as Orihime (who looks suspiciously like Artemis) and her love Hikoboshi (...who looks like a super-ripped and somewhat-bear-like version of Orion?! It’s a special, pre-Lostbelt cameo!)
In order to reunite the two (and let the youkai cross the river), Orihime and Hikoboshi have asked you to grant wishes to gather the magical energy needed to create a bridge across the starlit river.
“Darling~! Wait for me, my love! I’ll absolutely meet with you again!“
“Ahaha, actually, the thing is, I wouldn’t care if the bridge wasn’t repaired, but she can still hit me with her bow from over there, you know? So it’s really in our best interest… haha.“
Make your own wish, or grant other people’s wishes! While a wish for world peace and other lofty goals might be outside the scope of this festival, who’s to say it couldn’t come true someday? (That is to say: while we can’t grant a wish like that, maybe someday in the far future, your wish will come true when you least expect it...) We’re counting on festival-goers to help make today a success!
(And, if you’d like to, feel free to submit your own wishes for others to grant!)
