So when I teach calligraphy, I tell people they can PM me on FB for questions, but that message requests are fine--they shouldn't feel the need to friend me. This is mostly because my FB isn't a calligraphy page; it's just a bunch of hippie nonsense, lame science jokes, and toddler pics (and I usually say as much). Today I get this PM:
Person Who Didn't Listen: "I'm really disappointed I friended you. I wanted to learn more about calligraphy but you don't talk about calligraphy on your facebook at all."
Me: "I'm sorry I've disappointed you, but I never said my FB was a calligraphy page. However, if you would like more calligraphy information, here is my website: ____." (*I know for a fact they were in a class where I gave the disclaimer)
PWDL: "Well based on your facebook, clearly you don't know how to represent yourself online. You shouldn't teach calligraphy. You shouldn't even be a peer. I'm reporting you to the BOD." (*BOD = Board of Directors, in this context of the SCA, where I have the rank of 'peer' and do a lot of calligraphy-type stuff)
Me: "I'm sorry you feel that way. I hope you have a nice day." (*srsly tho what else do you say to that?? I guess it's better than the first response I typed tho, which was just 'okie dok'...)
And now I'm blocked and I've deleted the convo b/c I don't need that drama in my life. So yeah, I guess to those of my FB friends on the BOD, I'm sorry if you get a letter from someone who didn't like that my FB page wasn't about calligraphy...? (EDIT: Btw, I'm not mad, I promise. Confused? Yes. Definitely. But the whole thing was more perplexing than upsetting, I promise ^_^ )
