Martin felt his head connect with the wall immediately. Fear crawled over his body, as though the teenager had been turned to ice. “Dev,” he cawed, but he was being rather restricted. “Ease up, would ya? It’s a training session!”

Martin sighed and looked down at he feet. He felt sheepish. “I think that’s why we get on so well.” He couldn’t look at Dani; this was honestly embarrassing.

Martin looked at the teen and felt the need to stroke her arm in reassurance. “Listen Dani,” he whispered, “you know you can tell me anything, right?” He bit his lip and cast his gaze down to his feet.

She was so much like him; self loathing and doubting, full of fear about her powers. In a way, Martin found the notion rather comforting.
