Staying somewhat true to my age-appropriate new year’s resolution, I have merely dabbled in 2018 rap music consumption and it is this 90-minute Maxell cassette mix that captures my most heavily rotated songs from this year. The plan is to once again disconnect from New Rap for the next few months but I’ll probably return in mid-December to check some of end-of-year lists for things I’ve missed. So what will I be doing with my ear canals for the next 3.5 months? Returning to my record collection for reasons other than soundtracking the next soul legend funeral, digging into the tall stack of used CD’s I’ve recently purchased from actual real life record stores, completing a few more of the 100’s of possible compilations that exist in my brain, stepping back and allowing others to program the music, such as my favorite and therefore best weekly rap radio show and re-joining the high school football practices which involves a whole lot of “oh that’s the song twitter was talking about 4 days ago”.
