Knowledge is Power: Non-Binary Workshop by Beyond the Binary
THIS SATURDAY'S GI WORKSHOP
Where: Central School of Speech & Drama, Eton Avenue, London, NW3 3HY. (Map)
When: Saturday 25th October, 2 - 4.45pm Knowledge is Power: Non-Binary Workshop by Beyond the Binary The second workshop in the Knowledge is Power series is being run by the team behind new online magazine Beyond the Binary on Saturday 25th of October. It is open to all those who identify as trans and/or non-binary and other gender nonconforming people who identify as non-binary (but not necessarily trans) of ages between 13- 25. The session strongly welcomes those who identify as non-binary or not strictly binary in some way, whether they identify as trans or not. Of course no judgement will be made about anybody's identity. The session will offer opportunities for young people to talk about their experiences and journeys as non-binary people. There will be a space to ask questions and bring up concerns and personal experiences about coming out (and how to explain it to parents/school/work), healthcare, barriers in wider society and trans spaces, and how language and representation positively and negatively affects us. The ultimate aim of the day is to create a resource to help non-binary people in the UK, covering what is talked about in the session. There will also be an opportunity to talk about a potential future event for non-binary people, affiliated with GI. Running alongside the non-binary workshop we also have our Parents/ Carers Group + children/siblings arts + crafts
Simon Croft, one of GI’s trainers, would like parents to share ideas about what they want and need as parents/ carers of trans children, and start to look at how those things might be addressed. This is a 2 hour session so there will be time for other discussion and chats, with a nice cuppa!
What would make a difference to your life?
GI is keen to find out more about what parents of young trans people think would improve their lives as parents.
In particular, we want to explore how the collective understanding, resources and expertise of parents themselves might be involved in helping to create change.
Arts and crafts for children and young people Alongside this session, there will be a loosely supervised arts and crafts space for all of our parents and carers' children - this includes trans children and their siblings/family members who come along with their parents. Of course any young trans person who is between the ages of 13-25 can attend our trans youth group session.
