Young Seto
[and my messy handwriting. -sobs- my so-called calligraphy is poor.]
Just to add to the already horrible and heartbreaking situation...
I’ve always had this thought that young Seto knew of Gozburo Kaiba and idolized him from a young age. Like, that he used to sit and watch the chess matches and tournaments growing up and would play games against his father to improve his skills because he wanted to he a chess champion someday. And he would watch the championships each year and be so excited to see Gozaburo win again-- and then donate his prize money to various charities. (What a great guy, right?)
So when Seto heard he had won and was going to donate to the orphanage he and Mokuba were living at, it was almost an adrenaline rush of not only getting to meet his idol, but the eventual devised plan to play a match against him. And what better than putting up the stakes of if he were to win (even if chances were slim) that Gozaburo would have to adopt them? What is better than being adopted by your life-long hero? And then imagine how it must feel to have won. That moment of, perhaps shock, but knowing that you’d finally be free and going home to live with the one you strived to be like over the years. Especially after waiting so long, desperately for a home, and each passing day causing you to lose more hope. And now knowing that every day you’d be waking up in the home of your hero and being able to proudly call him “father”.
Of course... the whole “be careful what you wish for” thing comes into play from then on out. And just the thought of that is even more heartbreaking. Especially when realizing Gozaburo isn’t the man he pretended to be in front of the cameras and media, and all the hopes and dreams and nostalgia you had built up in making him your hero and the man you were so excited to call “father” fall apart from the “endless torture” and abuse.
His heroes became his villains. And then people wonder why Seto never trusted anyone again.
Getting back into doing some less "extreme" cosplay while I still recover from surgery... Have some kid Seto to brighten your week 💙✨ (I know I don't pull off the kid look that well, but I've been meaning to test young Seto in his "orphan days" for a while~)
