Jeyne could hear noise coming from every corridor in the Red Keep, which was not surprising as the royal wedding’s date was close. A few days ago, Jeyne had met a girl at court, after chatting for awhile, the girl offered to give her some books and new sheets for her chambers, since she had no use for it anymore.
Jeyne had accepted her offer, and that’s how she ended up carrying a crate filled with books — she didn’t expect that many books, but at least it would keep her busy. The sheets were on top of the crate and she tried to make her way back to her chambers as quickly as she could, given how heavy the whole thing was. She could barely see over the pile of sheets resting on the crate, wish did not make things easier.
She was almost there, but her fingers were hurting really bad at that point. Feeling her hands starting to sweat, she decided to stop and put everything on the floor before she lost her grip. Looking at how red and painful her hands were, she realized she realized she wouldn’t be able to carry all this back to her chambers.
She didn’t like asking for help. First, because she was too shy for it, and second, because she didn’t want to need help. Which is why she didn’t dwell on it too long and approached the first person she saw without thinking. It was like ripping off a bandage.
“Excuse me, I hate to ask you this, but could you help me carry this back to my chambers ?”, she said while pointing at the crate on the floor. “It’s not far, I promise”, she added quickly, hoping it would be enough the convince the man in front of her to help.
