Stop and think ... Please
I believe I have been wining a little too much, thinking that I was a victim of discrimination of being half. However, since I became closer to the Brazilian community in Japan I have found out that my discrimination is not as bad as theirs. The other day in my International Migration class we talked about how second generation migrants or immigrants can have the same education and skill as the natives but still get treated differently. So as the immigrant why work so hard if you can anyway work for the same amount of money as the lesser educated? Why study the native language when you are going to end up working in a factory with your own kind? Now, my other question is, why not encourage the immigrants who are educated to work as equals as the native? Or why not focus on the education of the immigrants children so that they do not have to face the future of making car parts 12 hours a day when they grow up? How can we take away dreams and hopes of any child? Why is the human right not respected in the case of foreigners? And the last question, what sense does it make for foreigners to study in Japan if their chances of getting a job is limited or the chances are low? Yes, of course if the immigrants are able to work equally the natives have to compete against harder, bla bla bla, we have heard this excuse over and over again. But if we are talking about globalization and and equal world isn't this a step? Giving the migrants/immigrants a chance is not only negative it my be a plus. Yes the language barrier bla bla, but if they are already educated as far as a PhD maybe just maybe they might make the effort of understanding. Giving a chance is, I believe the key to a new door in the equal world. Of course what I am writing now is naïve, and has no solution yet, but My point is to look for ideas and solutions. Now the motivation for the immigrant kids in Japan to study until university is close to 0. Because, they do not see they point if anyway they are going to be working in a factory. They feel as if the teachers are lying to them when they are told the "harder you study the better the pay", all they have to say is "bull shit". When you are faced without a dream as a kid you loose everything when you are grown up, you practically become a robot. My boyfriend is Brazilian and I see that his dream has rarely come true, so when ever he dreams he does not expect it to come true. I want that to change for him and the other young foreigners in Japan.
