As a writer, your personal character shouldn't be up to debate just because of a detail in your story. People shouldn't be personally offended by you missing something in your story. They should want to bring it to your attention because they know you are trying to be accurate and you didn't know. They shouldn't be mad or upset by it and people who ARE mad or upset about it are just the ones who are trying to make you feel bad about being a human being.
