Ebbie's Advice of the Day
Some people are just going to be mad at you for whatever reason they come up with so DON'T FILTER YOURSELF FOR THEM.
Ok, you didn't get a fact correct about some time period. Apologize for missing the fact. DON'T apologize for "offending" the person with your honest mistake. They shouldn't BE offended by an honest mistake. Just like people shouldn't be offended when I call myself "multiracial" to incorporate my Native American and Irish blood instead of just calling myself "black". Along the same lines, I stopped calling myself "bisexual" just to avoid the hardship of explaining my pansexuality to people. In the end, what I'm trying to say is this...your creativity is yours. As a writer, your personal character shouldn't be up to debate just because of a detail in your story. People shouldn't be personally offended by you missing something in your story. They should want to bring it to your attention because they know you are trying to be accurate and you didn't know. They shouldn't be mad or upset by it and people who ARE mad or upset about it are just the ones who are trying to make you feel bad about being a human being.
Don't let them put limits on your creativity. Realize the difference. This is D. A. Athren, signing off!
