I'm so happy with the response the last one got. You are all so talented and creative!

How this works if you're new: I set up a sort of vague, generic whump scenario, ending in some sort of open end or cliffhanger. From there you pick up where it left off and add your spin on it. It's nothing serious, just a fun writing exercise!

Without further ado, here is scenario number two.

The whumper's loud footsteps are unmistakable in the dark, quiet woods. He takes no care to be careful or quiet. Twigs snap and dry leaves crunch beneath his feet.

"Thought you could escape, did you?" He shouts into the darkness. He's holding a crowbar in one hand, a lantern in the other, stalking forward with determination. "You won't get far! Not in your shape...and I have traps everywhere..."

He continues onward, stopping occasionally to listen for a sound that might give his prey away.

He shines the lantern around, until...

The whumper grins cruelly.

"There you are...."

Ugh! Okay, I know I dreamt something a couple days ago, but for the life of me I can’t remember what it was! I was somewhere doing....something? Yeah, I don’t have remembered dreams often and they fade fast!

16. Favorite movie?

Like asking me to pick a favorite movie!!! But let’s see, I have an unquenchable love for LOTR, so I’m going to go with the LOTR/Hobbit series, but especially ROTK!

25. What color socks are you wearing?

None at the moment! But the socks I have hanging out of my pocket are white :P

17. Did any books surprise you with how good they were?

I'm gonna mention some that I didn't talk about in a previous ask!

Serious Weakness by Porpentine Charity Heartscape was a book I almost hated lol. A depraved yaoi(???) between a school shooter and a disabled art restorer. It was definitely too long, and a rollicking, disgusting ride, but by the end I couldn't help but respect the vision. I aspire to these heights.

Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees by Patrick Horvath. Berenstain Bears meets Silence of the Lambs. One of those graphic novels where one fucked up dude wrote and illustrated it to a seamless finish. I devoured it in one deliciously fun and unexpected hour.

Empire of AI by Karen Hao. Everyone should read this before having any solid opinion on AI. Succinct, well-researched, and easy to read. I'll be assigning this one to my students soon.

Honorable mention for a book I thought was gonna be great but wasn't: The Rose Field by Philip Pullman. I can't help but expect a lot from a grand finale to a most cherished childhood series. I counted at least a dozen plot holes, and no real development of the main characters. I do wonder if the publishers pushed for an alternate ending, or if Pullman just gave up from fatigue. Writing a fanfic in my head for the first time to assuage my disappointment, though it will likely never see the light of day. UNLESS...
