Urrik Forn tried to stay busy after the war. It made him feel like he was being useful. Made him feel like he was making some small difference in the galaxy. He bounced around the Hyperspace lanes for a few years, doing odd jobs wherever he could. The skills he’d picked up during the war years came in handy: fixing broken machines and computers; offering his medical knowledge to those who needed it. Eventually, he’d ended up on Ord Mantell. The planet had taken a beating during the Mandalorian War. Oily wreckage still burned on its surface. Yet the farmers worked on. Urrik would patch up anyone who got injured on the job, as best he could without the use of the Force. He’d left the Order of his own accord. Although he doubted that anyone would be looking for him from his past, his powers weren’t something the former Jedi made public.  Regardless, he managed to save more than a few lives and limbs with what med kits, bonding patches, and antibiotic stimpacks he had available to him. It had earned him something of a reputation among many of the farm workers here in Ord Mantell City. People knew who to come to when they needed emergency medical help.  Now he sat in the cantina down the street from his makeshift clinic, when a frenzied Twi’lek man burst inside. The green-skinned alien’s eyes were wild and his expression panicked. Urrik looked up from his drink even before he entered. The Force around him screamed for attention.  “I’m looking for any volunteers! There’s been some sort of outbreak on Taris! Please, the people of the Undercity are suffering and we need help!”  Downing the rest of his drink, the healer slapped some credits down on the bar and got to his feet. His hand was raised to garner the other man’s attention. It seemed it was time for Urrik to be moving on from Ord Mantell. “I can help you. I’ve got some medical knowledge.” Approaching the young Twi’lek, he extended his right hand. “I’m Urrik. Urrik Forn.” The Twi’lek shook his hand, lekku twitching nervously. “Brakka Jeel. Pleasure to meet you, sir. Th-thank you so much.” @yourlovingspy

“Watcha got there, bud?”

The Breather leaned over his companion’s shoulders at the note he received in the mail and thus far had been staring at for like ten minutes. He didn’t respond, simply looked over his shoulder at the werewolf currently adjusting his hoodie on his head; his face was pink— pinker than he wanted to admit. So pink that his ears were turning red. His pupils were blown wide, taking in every detail of the note. Truly, he looked adorably flushed in a way that would make even the coldest of hearts melt if they saw him. Michael grinned beneath his mask, waggling his eyebrows at the hitman after reading it.

“Ooooh! A secret admirer? How come you never told me you had one?” He teased.

“I did not know until now.” The assassin folded the note up neatly and tucked it into the breast pocket of his suit. He wanted to move on from this situation as quickly as possible. Forget about the note for now and ponder on it later while he binged an entire chocolate cake, and watched Full Metal Jacket, and drank liquor so hard it burned his throat going down. But Michael seemed rather keen on rolling with it, and decided maybe guessing at it would be fun.

“Who do you think it is? Not Joe— I know he says he loves us but I always imagined he’d be more... extravagant, if he ever decided to pursue us romantically.” Lucas didn’t respond.

“Hmmm okay, I’ll take that as a no... definitely wasn’t me. I know we’ve had a few hookups but commitment isn’t on either of our agendas...” he tapped his chin, and finally, a light bulb went off.

“What about... that one guy you worked on escorting that one time?” Lucas raised his head, silently arching a brow to feign ignorance. He knew full well who Mike was talking about.

“What was his name? Evan-“

“He was only a job.”

“Only a job?” Mike snickered, moving in front of the hitman as he worked on ironing his outfits for the week ahead. “I’m pretty sure I caught him staring at you like you were Jesus H. Christ himself, descended from the heavens in an ex-cons body to protect him from the woes of the world. And—“ He swept his arms out grandly to emphasize his point, before pointing back at Lucas’ face. “His scent was all. Over. You.”

“I had to carry him out of our initial drop point. He was bleeding on me, Michael.” Lucas rolled his eyes.

“Uh-huh,” Mike replied, clearly not convinced with that answer. “And my doctorate’s degree is real.”

Lucas set down the iron, huffing out a breath finally and crossing his arms. “What reason do I have to believe that my former charge and potential future employer has any interest in me? We don’t even know for sure it’s him. And I for one have no interest in finding out who it is anyway.”

Michael held his gaze for a moment before finally relenting with a defensive raise of the hands. “Fine, whatever you say, Luke. If that’s what helps you sleep at night. But I know better.” He winked, slinking off with a chuckle and finally leaving the other killer alone. Lucas breathed deeply as he watched him head off to the kitchen, likely on a quest to raid his fridge again, and took this momentary solitude to fish the note out of his pocket again and reread it. He thumbed gently at the edge of it, eyes fixated on the endearing attempt to spell his name in the way it was natively pronounced, clearly written by someone who did not know the language. He spared a glance around for a moment before raising it up a bit to sniff at it. Sure enough, the scent did smell awfully... familiar.

Perhaps he did have a clue after all.

Flotsam -- If you for some reason came into contact with the unfriendly parts of a couple lionfish, or stonefish, and you stored the venom, when you released it would it still have the same chemical profile and same effects on a victim? Or does your metabolism of it alter its structure, and thus effects and potency? Are certain toxins more difficult for you than others? For example, giant hogweed sap vs rattlesnake venom? --Respectfully, Montparnasse

“To answer your question, it’s a mixture of yes and no. And you’re on the right track as to why. By default, Axolotlans tend to simply store toxins filtered out from their diet to reuse- this is well known. But it varies by the individual and the diet itself, as well as the species. I myself am of the European variant so we follow this basic rule. Primarily, our acid is spray is a concentrated version of formic acid, which is created by eating ants and other bugs. Since this makes up a majority of our defense mechanisms most of the time, our physiology responds by literally breaking down and recombining the atoms we ingest from other poisons in our food into formic acid. Something something- it all boils down to chemistry. However, it doesn’t always pan out this way. If we find that one toxin is more prevalent- in this case we’re using a lion fish or stonefish toxins for example instead of traditional formic acid, then our bodies switch gears and begin changing molecules around to produce more of that particular poison. As we end up storing more of the toxin it becomes more potent and concentrated, and the minuscule amount of other toxins, like our traditional asset of acid, creates a secretion that is a more potent and caustic form of a stone or lionfish venom.

Following this, yes— some poisons are more difficult to get than others. Hogweed, ivy, nightshade, and doll’s eye is easy to get since all we need to do is eat it- assuming we can tolerate the effects. Snake venom is the hardest. Our small size as Axies generally makes us prime targets for most predators- especially snakes, and so even if we weren’t put off by being bitten multiple times, the high risk of being devoured for the sake of upping our defense game isn’t particularly ideal. I myself am I rare case. My... botched procedure did have some benefits. My acid clouds and sprays tend to be especially damaging and deterring. My larger size allows me to store more of the spray and thus create more potent acids to use. That means skin-melting trouble for anyone who gets too close while I have a full stomach.”

Not my fave color (I LOVE a red lip), but it’s a nice shade and it’s my favorite name for a color (brand is LipSlut). Looked good for my quick trip to the store, and yes, I was careful. People in my state are still acting like fools.
