Honestly I can't see them being explicitely dating? At all. These two are a weird ass situationship to me.
Sci would take advantage of Killer's vulnerability in stage one; this would be when he asks to do more tests/experiments. He knows Killer will hardly say no most of the times anyway, it's totally more practical like this!
In stage two, Killer is just "Huh. What is this guy doing. Lets see where this is going for a moment." And loses track of time. A moment turns into days, weeks, months. Because he like? Can't process he's feeling uncomfortable with a lot — if not all/almost all of the tests. Sci doesn't pick up on the dissociation and ends up making it even worse. Killer also gets something new to do between missions (even if he's not the one doing most of the stuff, it's something to try to focus on and distract himself).
Sci ends up becoming a pretty constant thing in Killer's life — and always hidden from Nightmare, of course. He doesn't leave because he's clinging onto one of the only frequent, """stable""" things he has other than the torture, Color and his cats.
Meanwhile Sci is going "Woahhhh this guy is interesting. I want to keep him close, tear him apart and put him back together like lego. ❤️"
Countless times where stage one Killer was kept in the lab for the whole night because Sci called him over and is saying "Just one more test!" for hours.
Countless times where Sci almost got his arm ripped off by stage two Killer because he put that hand a little too close to his SOUL.
Countless times where Sci found out some of his equipment is missing because Killer stole it to do his own experiments (SOULs, blood, y'know the deal.).
Countless times where Alphys walked in and almost saw Killer in the lab before Sci could shove him inside a cabinet or something.
It gets constant, something Killer can lean on knowing it'll eventually be there — even if it's not very pleasant, it's a sense of stability similar to Nightmare's torture and presence. It gets constant, then boring. Repetitive. It's not new anymore, he already figured the whole thing out.
One day, Killer just stops answering Sci's calls.
Sci thinks it's a shame. He was starting to really like this guy, it was one of his favorites... :(
