YUP 100%
okay, I’m glad to know you feel this way too because I haven’t seen anyone else mention it so I was like, huh... is it just me?? I don’t usually pay that much attention to the filmmaking technique/post-production work of a big-budget blockbuster, but it was just really noticeable to me.
youruinousbutt replied to your post: I’m trying to spend a little less time on tumblr...
this is /such/ a good idea, I definitely want to do something like this (even if it’s podcasts)
yeah, I actually took my cue from Austen, because he spends a lot of time lying/sitting down and listening to podcasts! it made me realize how infrequently I sit still, and like, pare my focus down to specific/simple sensory experiences. when I just focus on the sound of music, the taste of tea, and the flicker of candlelight, it’s almost meditative-- if I find myself drifting into anxiety brain, I can bring my awareness back to those things instead. it helps my body relax. I’ve been doing it 2-3 times a week and I always seem to get tired earlier and sleep better on those nights!

Is there any way to find a love-related quote from...
The songs ‘Be Enough’, 'Satisfied’ and 'Helpless’ probably have some choice quotes. Also 'Dear Theodosia’ although the context for that is children, not marriage
I’ll probably just stick with “May you always be satisfied,” or just cut H*milton out of it entirely. It’s just an easy show to find romance in! Having a more difficult time with Hand to God and The Flick, so if you have any favorite love-related quotes from those shows, send em to me!
youruinousbutt okay I've been thinking of reading rothfuss' stuff for a while but know little about it. what didn't you like about it?
it’s been 5-6 years since I read it, but the impression that remains is that it was a blatant ripoff of Harry Potter/Earthsea, that the protagonist was perfect at everything, never faced any kind of consequence for his actions, and generally was the most egregious example of a wish fulfillment self-insert protagonist (”Gary Stue,” if you prefer) I’d ever encountered, and that every secondary character had a Role (mentor, bully, love interest, wannabee-Snape) instead of a personality. The plot meandered for 800 pages without producing any character growth or placing the hero any closer to realizing his quest, and the prose was trying way too hard to be poetic.
like basically I found Twilight to be a more compelling read.
youruinousbutt said: lmao agreed! imho the writing for this show has always been inconsistent and not the greatest but my biggest gripe with s3 is that it often felt like every character was there to serve Carm/Laura rather than having their own arc or behaviours for their own sake (except LaF). I’m mostly thinking of Danny! I guess at any rate I would’ve liked more for Danny to do and I hope she gets some kind of story of her own in the movie
ANNIE BRIGGS IS MY FAVE, far and away the strongest actor imho (you are getting a lot of my possibly unpopular Carmilla onions tonight)!! (Maybe I am also biased towards those with classical theatre training hmmm idk examinin my biases etc but ANYWAY SHE WAS AMAZING
oh I don’t think it’s at all unpopular to say Annie’s the best actress, I think she’s clearly the most trained and most professional of the bunch, and no one can monologue like she can. I was gaping at my screen in that last episode. I really love Elise’s acting though, and I think she had by far the biggest challenge, having to deliver what’s basically endless exposition directly into the camera and yet somehow make it feel natural and conversational. I found her performance over the entire course of the series to be super moving and lovely, and I really want to see her in another role after this. But yeah, Annie and Sophia are definitely the powerhouses of this cast. (Sophia has so much screen presence and I love her physicality).
Agree with your comment in the first paragraph as well, they definitely fell into the trap of using too many characters as devices without putting enough care into how their individual stories played out, but like you said that’s been a weakness since season 2 so I wasn’t really surprise. I was definitely bummed that Danny didn’t get a legit redemption arc, but I do think a lot of it comes down to the limitations of the medium/budget/how much time they had to wrap things up.
There were obviously a lot of weaknesses, but I’m too euphoric about what they did right to be really upset about the things that let me down. I’m just so proud of them and what they accomplished and the impact they created with this tiny little web series!!
Full thoughts coming up after I rewatch!

I really enjoyed the movie, but I wish I hadn't seen it in 3D. They did way too much shakey-cam and it made me feel sick. : (
Good to know, thanks, bud! I think Emmy and I may just end up seeing whichever one isn’t sold out when we get there, BUT I always aim for the regular screenings. The IMAX and 3D ones are usually too much unless I’m seeing, like, a period drama with great scenery.

Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón! Just because it’s the ultimate book lover’s book. I read it at least once a year because there’s a magic to it that never gets lost no matter how many times you open the cover.
But as far as newish books that I really want more of my friends to read, I’d pick I’ll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson. Best YA book I’ve ever read.
