Thinking of post-story Yoyoda who hates his own appearance...

Personal headcanons but I think Chigda had been targeting Yoyoda and that Yoyoda et al. developing Desperation Syndrome was on purpose.

I assume around this time was when Chigda was becoming unable to publicly appear anymore due to, well, becoming an Esseling, but wasn't about to give up his hold over Faewish Sprite society and needed the body double.

And because Chigda has a rather unique appearance in having these long ears, that left him with very little choice, because the Sprites already knew what he looked like. The choices being Sieyeda, Bayida, and Yoyoda. (I have yet to find other sprites with the same ears; if you do lmk)

Sieyeda gives me the impression that he wouldn't have been obedient and would have caused far more problems than it was worth due to his beliefs, and risked blowing the lid on the whole thing.

Bayida would have been too vital to Faewish society as a Farewisher, and his sudden disappearance would have been very notable and a highly problematic element.

Which leaves Yoyoda. From what we know, Yoyoda came off like a somewhat clingy/sensitive young Sprite prior to his Desperation Syndrome, and his only connection was really just with Afubo. Not only would he have been easy to control and blackmail due to Afubo, he also wouldn't have really been 'noticed' as going missing by anyone but her, either.

So I personally believe that Yoyoda developing Desperation Syndrome was somehow orchestrated by Chigda to have the least suspicious and most plausible cover-up for him going missing, because only Yoyoda could have physically taken his place.

I like to explore Yoyoda being traumatized and lonely and going really hard on the angst with him but I think he also deserves to have a little villainy under his belt together with that aspect of him.

he is ostensibly an antagonist toward Nikki in the narrative. Like Avicinda wasn't micromanaging him and while he was under watch by the Paladins, he also had some measure of power pretending to be the Wish Master, like they needed him to keep things running smoothly. Afubo's Diary says the Paladins were super nice to her and gave her special treatment a lot which has to be to keep Yoyoda placated or something he negotiated for successfully.

he folded really fast in front of Nikki because she had his sketch that meant a lot to him, but what if some other Faewish Sprite had come close enough to the truth and he ultimately made the decision to protect himself (and Afubo) and the secret. I just like to think about that. Yoyoda has possibly made people disappear. this thing has ptsd and killed someone

I am like. actually kind of super invested in Afubo and Yoyoda. like can you imagine!!! how she felt!!! her brother who was dead from desperation syndrome—the entire reason she felt so alone that she wanted to make that doll for the little girl in Florawish—was actually alive, and not only that he had been a puppet for the real Chigda and the Paladins. And according to Giroda, after the entire ordeal, he's now holed himself up at home and Afubo is taking care of him like. do you think Giroda ever visits him...
