American Auto Trail-Old U.S. Highway 99 (Yreka to Hornbrook CA)

This American auto trail begins in Yreka, California, and travels north along the Shasta River to its mouth at the Klamath River.  From Yreka, this travel route follows part of old U.S. Highway 99, which is now designated as California Highway 263.

Mt. Shasta Over Yreka

My final for my Asian Art History class required that I created a Chinese/Korean/Japanese-inspired true scenery landscape of a place that's local or personally significant to me.

I had Hokusai’s “Thirty-Six Views of Mt. Fuji” on the brain, so the first place I could think of was Mount Shasta, one of my favorite landmarks and one of very few I’ve ever encountered. Shasta made me very fond of stratovolcanoes and I wish to see more if I ever go further North, like Hood or Rainier.

This actually mostly takes after Korean true scenery hence the beige construction paper, calligraphy pen, and white charcoal — to simulate yellowed scroll paper and black and white inks that were traditionally used. I also had to seize the opportunity to draw my own artist signature in red like what was traditionally done in East Asian art.
