Yubikoi~Kimi ni Okuru Message
IF YOU ARE PRONE TO FALLING FOR THE SECOND LEAD AND PERIODICALLY EXPERIENCES SECOND LEAD SYNDROME, THEN THIS IS THE DRAMA FOR YOU!
Just finished watching and I have to express how much I love this simple drama. (Warning: Spoilers ahead.) I watched Yubikoi knowing this is your average love triangle story and did not expect much - just another boy meets girl and they fall in love but there’s a rival kind of slice-of-life romance. Tbh it is all of that, but there is the twist I wasn’t expecting. Half-way through this drama I realized this is the story I’ve been waiting for since forever: a male lead who takes the role of your typical second lead - the over the top, dorky and charming (not brooding, not charismatic, not cool, not popular with girls) character who has been friend-zoned but keeps on supporting the female lead no matter what - and he wins the girl in the end because she realizes that who she really needs is someone to stay by her side and accept her for who she is (plus other details I won’t get into). The plot actually focuses on the female lead’s crush on her counterpart’s rival, her gaining the courage to pursue her feelings, and her dates and relationship problems with the love interest - which is only interspersed with moments of the male lead giving her advice, confidence and strength. Because it’s so centered on the heroine’s crush on the other guy, Seungho, the male lead, is relegated to second lead status and I ended up experiencing that second lead syndrome so bad despite the fact that, yes, Seungho actually wasn’t second lead.
Behold my crappy gifs below of one typical love triangle scene reversed:
The guy in the yellow, yes him, the typical second lead who walks away heartbroken and forgotten by the female lead when she is happily smiling next to her prince charming - he’s actually the male lead in this drama, did you know?
I cry easily. Despite the simplicity of this story I, as a viewer who belatedly but did eventually notice (a little more than) half-way through the drama of Seungchan’s selflessness, shed a few tears of sadness and regret alongside our heroine, Miu, when she towards the end in turn realized the love she had overlooked while pursuing her own interests.
I’ve been waiting for a drama like this and I found it and I love it for everything that it is and more. It’s a short mobile Jdrama, it’s cliche and because of its length doesn’t have time to flesh out every detail, plot, and character, but it’s a sweet and simple story that you can enjoy without thinking too deep. There may be many faults to this story and acting-wise, but I can overlook it since I appreciate one of my wishes coming true!
Tyvm, BBVIPCHANNEL, for the eng subs!
Seungri in Yubikoi
I watched the drama before but was only able to see the Special Contents part now. AND IT WAS GOLD. I loved the chemistry between Ri and Miori in the drama. But now that I’ve watched the BTS, I love them more (as friends though. She’s got a bf already. T-T). I loved their interactions in real life. Was laughing cause Kanata was using Ri as role-model for his playboy and smooth character. xD Ri was also apparently the mood-maker on set. He would joke around and get people to participate. He was really sweet prior to the kissing scene and was really nervous about it (Honestly, if he’s such a playboy as everyone’s making him out to be, he wouldn’t be that nervous. I have a friend that’s a playboy and for him kissing is almost like a reflex already with the number of gfs he’s had. @_@). I liked the BTS cause we got to see more of Ri’s personality. He works really hard! He practiced and practiced especially with his Japanese pronunciation. And the dances he made while waiting for the shoots were really good.. I think most of it was “Bad Boy” choreography. The goodbyes for him and Miori were really cute too. I like seeing Ri interact and get close with other people. I haven’t seen an Angel Eyes BTS yet so if anyone knows, please lead me to it. Anyway, great drama (I loved how it made me see the chemistry between Mio and Masaki first, then the slow pull towards Seungho, and making the person root for Mio and Seungho in the end. I also liked the mystery of the other girl. And the adorbs love story of the aunt too) and great people behind the characters. :D
1. Seungri will never stop asking that question and will always act dramatic when he’s not picked. 2. He looked so offended when she chose Top. Like ‘come on, you worked with me all of this time. You should pick me!’ 3. That hair flip when she said she wanted to revise her choice. Like ‘now, we’re talking’. 4. He literally got up and left when she chose Dae. He was so done. [x]
