Fushigi Yugi Vol 16
this is my first time watching but 👀 Miaka not wanting to leave Tamahome... but the "emotional bond" with Yui also being strong enough to pull her home 👀
The dragon priestess
AX had a cool wisteria set that was fun to play with. We visited it nearly every day at the Con.

a Yui Hongo post cuz we don't talk about her enough
I think Yui Hongo got the short end of the stick. I'm referring to Fushigi Yuugi, not Genbu Kaiden or Byakko Senki, since the girls in those stories also suffered a lot.
I haven't watched the series in a few years, so I don't remember much atm, but it seemed like Yui was supposed to be Miaka's foil. Yui was smart, did well in school, had lots of friends and probably had the most options for boys if she wanted them. Miaka was scatterbrained, lazy, ate too much and was obsessed with food, and it seemed like their classmates only tolerated her because of Yui.
But in the book it's Miaka who finds a caring group of warriors who love and adore her. Yui ends up with a bunching of sleazy, scheming men who were using her to get the power of Seiryuu.
I'm not sure if it was intentional on the end of Watase, but somebody being a little haughty as a teen isn't a good reason for her to be violated in a fantasy story.
I don't think we talk enough about how Yui has C-PTSD. About how even in the ova she was still depressed. Girl got the life abused out of her in that book, and we're all just happy that Miaka ended up with Tamahome like he's not a random broke dude from another world. Also why is Yui dating a college guy while she's in high school? Ugh.
