I started reading Black Clover & I'm having a lot of fun with it actually! I don't think it's super original or like revolutionary, but it's soooooo fun. 99% of the characters are very likeable imo & the writing doesn't try & pretend to be something more complicated than it is. This is stereotypical shonen done in the best ways! A true love letter to battle shonen.
I also like that the rivalry between Asta & Yuno is very positive & that there is genuine love between the two without either trying to pretend otherwise. I call them the anti-bakudeku duo. Hopefully it stays like this.
I'm just shy of 50 chapters, but here are the two characters I'm stuck between choosing as my favorite:
On the one hand we have ✨️Noelle✨️
Adorable Tsundere✅️
Water Powers ✅️
Mean girl with a heart of gold✅️
Underdog w/family issues ✅️
Has the same English VA as Pudding from One Piece who is another favorite of mine ✅️
Ok, so that last one is mostly an added bonus, but still!! Needless to say I've quickly grown attached to Noelle & I can't wait to see how her story unfolds. Word on the streets say she is basically what would've happened had Kshimoto knew how to handle Sakura Haruno & all her potential?? 👀 Can't wait for THAT.
Asta x Noelle forever btw. Sorry to the other girls, but it's not even close. Her relationship with Asta has too many parallels with Asta's relationship to Yuno, she has water magic like the nun Asta currently likes, & he's very, very protective of her. They're cute 🥰.
On the other hand we have ✨️Charmy✨️:
You see my dilemma?? And no, she's not a child lmao. She's a gag character 90% of the time so the mangaka keeps her in chibi form & I think she's also part Dwarf so she's just very short in general. What's even more hilarious is that the Mangaka apparently based her personality off his wife!? Amazing. I'm 100% rooting for her to actually win over Yuno because I just want her to be happy. You'll always be famous Charmy.
This is the 1% of characters I don't find likeable btw:
Who tf let this dude out of prison & how do we put him back?? 😭
If Tabata was trying to make this a joke & subvert expectations it's very poorly done & it comes off suuuuuper uncomfortable. I honestly think if he had an older sister it would be less creepy because his sister is so young. Because if she was older then him we could try & explain it as misplaced parental affection due to his backstory but.....it's not 😭. I just finished reading his first real fight & tbh the lore to him doesn't make things better. If anything, it makes things worse because he's doubling down on the sister affection. Doesn't help that this little girl basically has to manipulate her brother into doing the right things all the time💀. Cut this shit out sooner than later I say!!
Gauche is what Sanji haters think Sanji is imo. Not a good look smh 🤦♀️.
Yami is my Husband. That is all. I refuse to believe he's my age though. Dude looks mid 30s at least. I am NOT complaining about though hehe 🤤.
BTW....
Asta... do we not see the irony here buddy? 😭 Him letting go of his crush on sister Lily is definitely going to = him maturing. This is actually a person mistaking parental affection for romance lmao. She was the closest thing to a mother he ever had. It'll pass....eventually.
I was brain rotting over this
