Out of curiosity, do you follow any specific tutorials for your gifs? I used to make a lot of them, years ago, then stopped for a while. Trying to get back in the swing of things is all :) Thankies!
Hey! I don’t follow any specific gif tutorials, just sort found a way that works best for me after seeing how a bunch of people create theirs. There are quite a few ways to make them, but this is what I do most often.1) Create short, identical length clips. I recommend 1080p or 720p, 30fps, and under two seconds each. I usually use OBS to capture video games, and Adobe Premiere Pro to make the clips2) Import the clips onto the Photoshop timeline (I use the 2017 CC version currently), change each clip’s speed to around 60% (edit: I now set the speed to 65%)3) Resize and crop depending on which size is needed for the set (edit: here’s a helpful link for Tumblr image sizing)4) Drag a colouring .psd onto it (I make my own and occasionally use some I’ve downloaded), make any needed adjustments to it5) Create a soft vignette in another layer - black, low opacity and set to Soft Light5) Smart sharpen/gaussian blur as you’d like5) Apply dialogue text and a watermark (if using) 6) Click on File > Save for Web, and save each clip this waySome notes:- A lot of people will just skip the first step and edit the length of each clip in Photoshop itself but it takes much longer to import and so I’d rather just it the above way.- I use Myriad Pro Bold Italic as my dialogue font. This is a good tutorial on how to create nice text that is easily readable.- As with the recent gif update, you can post gifs higher than 3mb now, but I don’t recommend going above 3.9mb as Tumblr tends to destroy the quality if you do.
Hopefully that was somewhat useful! And I hope you do get back into gif making 💖💖
