Which character is your favorite?
Aaaa that’s kinda like making someone choose between their kids!!!
I feel bad for it- but my favorite character would have to be Jack, considering he’s the main character and I’ve spent more than an entire year coming up with how he works and what his backstory is.
I don’t think of him as a self insert- he has multiple qualities and traits that I would never associate with myself, but I have put a lot of myself into him, and I have also used him as a punching bag and vent character way more than I should, haha.
I’ve spent so much of my time thinking about his thought processes, how his body language works, everything. Most of it seems easy, especially since he has a rather black and white sense of thinking, but it’s really hard for me, an indecisive and bad under pressure person to write him, due to the fact that he’s very VERY impulsive. However, we are similar in the fact that we both have short tempers and a LOT of passion.
Besides Jack, Xavier would be the next character I’ve put the most work in. Not only that, but he’s just genuinely a very optimistic contrast to Jack, which nice, because writing them in the same scene compliments them both and also gives me breaks from a certain mindset. Xavier is also just a huge sweetheart and doesn’t deserve anything bad in life ever.
I also have a large amount of love for Harrison and Yunlian. In the first draft of Kill Count, Yunlian didn’t get much time for me to write him, but I was always building him as a character in my mind and wishing he had more of a chance, so I ended up rewriting him in to stay because he’s just so fun! And Harrison is your local supportive bear, who I’m very much hoping doesn’t come off as “the best friend who’s life runs around the MC”, because I’ve been trying to flesh him out plenty as well!!
Oh, I also really enjoy Pam. She’s a lot like a way less jaded and more optimistic version of Jack, but she’s still very impulsive. However, she’s a just sweetheart and despite the fact that she will scream something like “GET REKT” when beating someone in Mario Kart, she’s very feminine and loves picking flowers and just all in all a wonderful gal.
Also Sully is my guilty pleasure character. He’s cynical, blind, a huge dick, but really secretly does care about people. He just likes to call everyone a cunt when they give him pity.
