last week we were doing presentations on our final project in English, and one of the presentations included a would-you-rather type game where there would be two options on the screen and everyone would move to the respective sides of the room as a way of picking one of the options. one of the questions was "would you rather have unlimited knowledge or unlimited creativity" (i think worded like that too but i'm not sure). With this question, a lot of people chose unlimited knowledge, and this got me wondering about how good unlimited knowledge would be. because. knowing *everything*?
1. that includes *everything*, even stuff i feel most people would not wanna know (ie. ignorance is bliss, right?)! would the average person wanna know about freaking idk the omegaverse (maybe they would, idk I'm not judging)
2. would everything also include major plot points to stories? Assuming when they say everything, that they mean everything, then that would kinda suck, right? a lot of people don't want to be spoiled on media they're experiencing for the first time, so if when you do know everything, like a snap of the wrist, you automatically get spoiled on every single story out there.
3. the joy is in learning (also coincides with the last point)!! If you know everything, it's kind of hard to learn... and some of the joy is in the mystery! this also includes puzzles. you automatically know how to solve any puzzle ever because you know everything, of course, but i think the main point of puzzles is figuring them out! not necessarily, but most often, a puzzle tends to get at least a little boring when you already know the answer, right?
4. would knowing everything include the future too? you know everything about the past and present, so why not the future? if you truly know everything would you also know about everything that is currently taking place anywhere? i feel like that would get pretty busy, depending on how the "knowing" parts work. Being able to know anything is more at the will of the user. i'd think that they could pull out bits and bobs of knowledge when they want, but would knowing everything be the same or would it be more like that they're constantly thinking (one who always thinks...)
also i'm not a very creative person, so i think unlimited creativity would work out best for me. i also feel like creativity works out better socially, but if knowing everything also includes knowing exactly what to say for the best outcomes at any given time then idk.
overall, i think these would be important things to consider if ever given the chance to known everything (however, with the specific wording of "unlimited knowledge," that might lean into the being able to know anything category so this whole post might be a tad redundant, but i digress). I think personally, even given the choice of knowing everything or staying the way i currently am, I think i would choose the latter. knowing everything seems overwhelming and not too terribly awesome, but i'm sure it definitely could be beneficial for certain people if they'd be willing to sacrifice some things.
